Tetsuya Nomura: No FFVII Remake 'for the Time Being'

The latest crushing rebuff comes from none other than FFVII character designer (and now game director) Tetsuya Nomura, who said in this week's Famitsu that no one should expect a remake anytime soon. "Fans are looking forward to an oft rumored remake of FFVII, but I don't believe this will happen for the time being," Nomura said (via Andriasang).

But wait! It's not all bad news! Just because there won't be a remake (for the time being...), that doesn't mean we won't see a return of what will probably always be Nomura's most popular character: FFVII main character Cloud Strife. "It's possible that he will appear in other titles as a guest character," Nomura teased.

Of course, Cloud has already made guest appearances in such games as Final Fantasy Tactics, Ehrgeiz, and Kingdom Hearts, so that's not really new or particularly reassuring. We just don't want you getting all suicidal on us, devoted and endlessly disappointed FFVII fans.

The dumb thing is, the less emo FFVII fans like me don't want more weird prequels/sequels (Well, the movie was kinda okay... not really) but rather a proper remake which retains the more neutral 'adventure' character of the original.

They wouldn't even need to make it over the top--in fact, I'd abhor them making it like Advent Children. All it'd need to do is remove the blocktasticness, and bring everything up to the quality of the original's pre-rendered cutscenes.

Seriously though, if Square is going to endlessly remake the earlier titles for new consoles, I don't see what problem I would have with them doing this. If they cock it up, it's no skin off my nose; I'm not a huge FFVII fan to begin with. :P

IX remade would be amazing, it is my favourite FF.

Also, I haven't played FF7, but I would absolutely do so if they remade it. It's an amazing game, just overhyped, and it would be gorgeous if up to PS3 standards.

Nomura at least doesn't put dark blue or black lipstick and eye shadow on ultra-thin men...he puts them on women instead, then puts more emphasis on clothes. :P
