Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 goes episodic this summer - News at GameSpot

Quote:
Sega has taken the wraps off Project Needlemouse, and the publisher is positioning the game as a proper sequel to the series' Genesis genesis and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, specifically. The publisher has released a new trailer for the game, revealing its official title: Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.

Sega debuted a trailer (viewable below) for the game, showing off the fourth proper installment of the iconic side-scrolling platformer star. The teaser starts with a retrospective of the series, gradually transitioning the memorable mammal's visage to a new HD version of Sonic, with waypoints at 1991 (the original Sonic), 1992 (Sonic 2), and 1994 (Sonic 3)

The trailer also revealed a few other details about the game, most notably its platforms and release window. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 will arrive this summer as a downloadable title on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

While diehard fans have oft-pleaded for a new 2D installment in the Sonic series, the publisher has for years pursued 3D projects and spin-offs. Most recently, the series has incorporated gameplay revolving around transmogrification in the critically panned Sonic Unleashed. The iconic hedgehog also tried out high-speed driving skills in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and character progression in the BioWare-developed DS role-playing game Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

In an interview with GameSpot, Sega associate brand manager Ken Balough revealed a few more details about Sonic 4. Specifically, he said the game will pick up the series after Sonic & Knuckles, and incorporate established 2D gameplay mechanics for the series like the spin dash and power sneakers. Additionally, the game will incorporate leaderboards for players to test their speed against one another, and incorporate motion controls on the Wii and PlayStation 3 (with the Sixaxis controller, not necessarily the upcoming "Arc" motion controller.)
HOLY CENSOR EVASION.

Very yes.

And remember, "I'm-a Tails, number one!"

transmogrification

Wow, I never realized that they abandoned the original series, at least as far as numbering them goes. Perhaps this will get them completely on track once and for all?

Yeah, I'd actually thought S&K was Sonic 4, SCD was Sonic 5, 3D Blast was Sonic 6, Adventure was 7, etc.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It wasn't too obvious, but the way they abandoned the old-school style after S&K and stopped numbering always felt like the difference between Mega Man original and Mega Man X to me.

Thus it is a pleasant surprise to see SEGA using the same sort of logic and simply making more sequels to the old ones.

S&K was originally going to be part of 3 anyway.

BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH WIN THEY HAD TO SPLIT IT INTO TWO PARTS.

^In fact, it seems as though a similar situation is going on with Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

I know, right? STH3 blew S&K out of the water and into it's own game.

I've played the prototype where Sonic 3 and Knuckles were one game. They had planned to sell one mega-cartridge, but it was too expensive (too much storage needed.)

But SEGA is sort of considering S3&K a proto-episodic thing. I hope their episodes can be connected together, S3&K style, then.

No Tails. Not a good sign. Hopefully just because it's an early trailer.

Leaked Video and Screens Reveal Levels in Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Quote:
Just a few weeks ago Sega surprised plenty of people when they announced Sonic 4, the first numbered title in the series since 1994's Sonic 3, would be coming to PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 in episodic form starting this summer. That announcement left plenty of questions in the minds of Sonic's many rabid fans. How much will it cost? How many levels will be included? What does he look like when he runs?

Some of those questions can now be answered thanks to an anonymous kind-hearted tipster who leaked several screenshots and an off-screen video of an alpha build to 1UP. The screens and video reveal that at least four zones will make it into episode 1. Those are Splash Hill Zone, Lost Labyrinth Zone, Casino Street Zone, Mad Gear Zone and a Special Stage. We'll definitely have to wait a little longer before we got our grubby hands on it for ourselves, but until then this should whet our appetite.

Stay tuned to 1UP.com for more on Sonic the Hedgehog 4 in the coming months.
Check the link for the video.

Also, Sonic's running animation is kind of aggrivating also. And the grass looks like plastic. This looks to me like Sonic Rush 3. The Homing Attack doesn't seem too bad, though.

And how long has Sonic's eyes been green, exactly?

Pretty much since Sonic Adventure. They turned green when he went Super, though.

Also, they might be working out the flaws you mentioned. Jeez, CAN'T ANYONE EVER BE HAPPY?!
