I've played GH for the Wii; it's pretty entertaining for a while (but honestly, I have an actual real guitar which is somewhat more gratifying to play around with). So what is it that lures all you guys to play these games? Is it the feeling of satisfaction that comes with playing a song really well (because it is pretty exciting, I admit)? Is it the challenge involved? Is it the song selection, or wacky characters, or something else? Define what makes the AWESOME MUSICIAN ROCK STAR games so exciting to you. I want to know. :3 |

I couldn't tell you exactly what it is, but I guess there's just something compelling about rhythm games. Rock Band (and new GH games) is also an excuse to do karaoke on songs that are actually good. I think everyone secretly wants to be a singer deep down. For me at least, it was also a way of introducing me to rock music. I play video games far more than I engage in passive media like TV, movies, or even just sitting and listening to music. But I had started to listen to more music by the time I started playing GH, and it introduced me to a number of awesome songs and bands. I don't think I would have listened to Boston, the Fratellis, or Muse, to name a few, if these games hadn't exposed me to them. I also don't think I'd know how Free Bird goes, or Paint it Black, or Cliffs of Dover, and so on. Last edited by Prince Toad; 02-19-2010 at 12:37 PM. |

My younger siblings are absolutely hilarious, so doing it with them makes it one helluva good time. ![]() |

Especially with DLC, it has enormous longevity. Also people that aren't gamers can sing or play on easy, whereas they might not want to play most other games. |

GH and RB are right up my alley. |

To tell the truth I act like I`m really on a stage and perform to no one. It`s definatly the music that pumps me up. |

Psychologically, the feedback response is terrific. You strum the guitar and a note gem disappears in a puff of sparks. Every song is a series of victories. Just this aspect alone is enough for some people. You might know them: the type that plays with the volume all the way down, sitting down on the couch, eyes dead set on the screen, mouth slightly open. (These are the people who also never sing vocals in Rock Band.) So, I don't really listen to much "classic" music myself, so the songs on Rock Band are all awesomely new music that makes me want to bust a move. It fits with the feedback system well; it's a very gratifying feeling to hit up star power overdrive during a solo and rack up the points. There's also the mastery aspect. I pride myself on getting five stars or gold stars. I like telling other people I can do vocals and (fake) guitar on expert. I like playing (fake) drums, because it feels like I could play the real drums if I wanted to. |
