Question RPG Maker?

I have been getting some ideas and I was wondering if anyone could recommend what they think is the best choice of game for making an RPG and possibly how I could acquire it.

I played something called "Super_Dante_RPG_Maker_2" on a Super Nintendo emulator, but it has flaws and the mapmaker sucks when trying to make houses in a town.

Any suggestions?

RPG Maker 2000/2003/XP/VX.

There's probably a few sites you could get one of those from. VX is the latest version, and has the most features, I think.

I created a game with RPG Maker 2000, and it was okay. I partially adapted it for RM2k3, and it was a bit better.

XP was tons more flexible, since you can edit the executable code. It was in ruby, though, and all of the code comments were in Japanese =/

I had RPG Maker on the PSX. Was pretty basic, think the worst was sprite making, since I don't recall there being cel importing to create similar sprites. Battle system was pretty much Dragon Quest.

Wario Ware DIY had more options than it.

If you're looking for platform independence, there are a few Flash-based RPG frameworks out there.
