On a serious note, I think parents tend to overlook the themes that are presented in movies or TV shows, which are very similar to video games except there is not as much interaction between you and the digital representation of what is being displayed on the screen. So surely you would think parents would take the same consideration when watching movies? You can find 'offensive' content in nearly every movie or TV show. Adult jokes are displayed in family animated movies so everyone can have a good time watching the movie. The TV guide channel dedicates half their screen (or more) to their stupid reality shows that have offensive material (cause bleeping cuss words really leaves you wondering what's being said right? ) There's really no practical way of avoiding 'offensive' content on TV, or in general, especially when it's pretty much the norm these days. |

Epic Ladynerd Join Date: Jul 2000 Location: Forteresse de Valois Gender: Posts: 28,504 Thanks: 1,658 Thanked 1,820 Times in 1,042 Posts | There are several distinct problems here. Parents don't have Auto-Respect enabled. Oh, I know how the rest of the free world has been (excuse me if this offend you) brainwashed into thinking otherwise, but it's just not fact. If you want respect, you must act in a manner that deserves respect. By being manic and controlling, you can't expect your children to respect you, just because you're the parent. Expecting unyielding respect regardless of their own actions is a selfish, conceited act by most parents. They didn't get Life's Handbook. Their choices aren't assured to be 100% correct. If they don't respect their adult son enough to allow him to make his own choices, then I don't see how they deserve respect for their choices. An adult shouldn't have to be chased out of their family home just to play a videogame. It's beyond ridiculous. And let me guarantee something for all of you: they will NOT be any more satisfied with his ability to make his own choices if he lives somewhere else. People like that never are. It's just that they have less leverage once you're out of their home. No more fabricated "rules" they can threaten you with, no more authority to dangle over your head. There are even some people who are entirely crazy and manipulative and put their familial bond to ransom if they don't approve of your choices. Contracts are a moot point, and have no place in comparison to this. Zero. Nada. None. To varying degrees, you choose where you live and what lease you sign. If you want to rent a place where you can have pets, you find one that accepts that. If you want to install satellite appliances, you find a place where you can. You can't choose your family. End of story. Like I already said, Leo, either you can find a way to sort it out with your parents (whether that be convincing them you can have it, or just getting it regardless of what they've said), or you accept that it's not worth the effort and get over it. You're seriously not missing out on much by not playing GTA, but it's disappointing that your parents have imposed their will upon you. And I don't get why people are cool with violence, but once sex is involved, it's a crime against humanity (or innocence?). I know what I'd rather the world was comfortable with. We can live without violence. Can't live without sex. What a backwards place this is. |

He initially thought it was ankle sprain, but has had it for over 2 weeks now (I haven't bugged him at all about GTA during this time or for several months actually (same for mom)) and has found out it's more serious. Please include my dad in your prayers. |

I'm glad everything worked out. -- As for the game itself, I think it's something you should just decide for yourself. You know yourself, your parents, and your situation better than any of us here. Do you understand why your parents don't want you to have the game, and do you respect that decision or not? Decide that for yourself and then choose whether you want to just respect their decision and not play the game, play it elsewhere, get a different game, or just get it anyway. I don't think it's something we can decide for you because only you really knows EXACTLY how much you respect the decision and why the decision was made. Hope all works out. |

Therefore I'd like to request this thread to be closed if it's alright with the moderator. |
