1-up's art thread

Here's a picture I drew of Green Lantern: http://item.slide.com/r/1/131/i/Qmdk...9ZgM6ATgUid1T/

I know it's not that good, but I've improved.

It's not bad, but he looks pretty stiff (of course, I'm not one to talk). Maybe you should try posing him and/or turning him around a little bit so he's not facing directly forward. You've got potential and you're off to a good start.

Well, I'm getting some of my best drawings today, and those are alot better. Mainly Kingdom Hearts fan-art.

I like the joker one. The nose is a little off-center, but I like the detail in the mouth. I can't draw teeth for the life of me.

KEEP DRAWING. MOAR.

Those Kirby ones were great. I did something like that once, but with different abilities/hats.
The cool anime guy is good as well, but you may need to try to open his shirt more at the bottom. It looks attached to his pants at the moment.

Cool stuff. It's always great to have more people posting their skills of an artiste.

Please keep the pictures to a maximum width of about 900, dude, page stretching isn't cool.

I mean, I run 1280 pixels wide and that was still some massive stretching. If you resize the images, feel free to edit your posts to link to the resized versions.

Thank you for all the compliments! Oh, and Cool Anime Guy isn't wearing a shirt.

As always, I never understand why people go easy on beginners.

I'm not artist, but I do know that you should start researching and practicing proportions early if you want to draw; look at Sub-Zero's forearms: why are there sagging, bicep-like lumps (I know, they're armor, but just because I knew that doesn't mean everyone will; try to make armor look less ambiguous)? Musculature is a hard thing to draw. I know, so keep practicing, and as a general hint, study some charts of the human body to get a good feel of what the average human male or female's proportions and muscles would look like.

As I said, I gave up on drawing ages ago, but I know what looks right; study, practice, and patience will pay off, as shown by the immense talents of CL and Ace, both of whom began here as amateurs but quickly matured into some of the best artists we have here.

Because every finished piece is an accomplishment, Gale. People can get better just by thinking about it the right way, but knowledge isn't something that can be built on without time and effort. Doing something the "wrong" way means he can look at it and figure out a better way, himself. You can only improve if you familiarize yourself with all of your qualities as an artist, and you can't do that without trying.

On top of that, showing a drawing you've spent a good amount of time on isn't the same as inviting outright criticism of your techniques. I'm sure he could sign up for a decent cartooning class, or rent some books from the library if he wanted to.

1-up should be proud of himself for having the courage to show it online, because he wants to.

I'll be sure to try to get better at drawing muscles, that's one of the hardest things for me to draw. The thing is, most of the things I draw are Kingdom Hearts, and Nintendo fan-art, so I don't need to draw a whole lot of muscles.

^ Wow, I have the exact same problem. Which is why almost all the people I draw are Nintendo females. xD

I used to only draw females and my males look wonky.

The boobs keep on being lopsided.@_@
Balance is crucial.

So you'll get the joke, that's Light Yagami in the lower-right.

This one was like.. One or two weeks ago. It's my attempt at drawing a Pokemon-style character.

DANG IT! Crap, when you scan a picture, what do you save it as? I scan it to MS Paint and save it as a .PNG.
Sorry about the page-stretching.
