I actually don't like "Dagon" as much as his other stories. I'm always a bit too disappointed by the lack of description of the mind-destroying monster to actually be very horrified.

who cares about the monster, the mind-destroying part is the fact that when he wakes up his boat is like miles away from a beach, on a unmarked island.

There are many facets to writing and many of us appreciate altogether different aspects.

I... That's exactly what I said, except in a simple way as to warn people that some are more opinionated than others. I mean, I could have just said "NUH UH" and went on about my business, but it would have had less 'responsible observer' feel and more 'what the **** does that mean'.
