Cool AI's ART BLOG

And it is awesome.

The box it came in was literally gigantic, because aside from being in its original packaging, it was sent in a durable box meant for shipping. Steam Lord has declared the shipping package his, and lays on it frequently.

It's from Wacom's Intuos 3 line, rather than the cheaper Bamboo line, and has a much denser sensor layout so it doesn't get wiggly lines when you draw with slow, steady strokes like the Bamboo tablets do. I literally had to redraw lines over and over and over in rapid strokes, trying to get the right angle with the smaller Bamboo tablet, and this partially solves that problem(the Cintiq line is actually a screen you can draw on top of, rather than just control device - they're thousands of dollars, but of course I reeeeaaally wanna try one).

Hotd, SD and I took some photos for size comparison. Here's several of them:

I've got a lot of crap to get done at work this week, so I haven't had the chance to mess around with the tablet too much yet, but I enjoyed playing around with it a little bit before going out to see a movie last night.

Here's an older sketch I decided to play around with a bit, and added some effects into:

And this is a screen capture of my desktop. SD and I took turns with it, trying out the new brush plugins for PS that came with the tablet. It is obviously a very accurate rendition of its subject, Marilink:

Nice Cowboy hat, AI.

Jenocide/Arensa has the same brand. I'm not so sure it's the exact same though :/

I wish I actually looked that menacing. That would solve a lot of problems.

Haha, the keyboard and mouse are pretty cool. Steam Lord has tried to chew through the mouse cable, though, and I had to wrap it with electrical tape where he broke the rubber/plastic. Also, the keyboard had its shortcut keys to power off and go into standby, etc, where the print screen, scroll lock, and break keys used to be. I tend to use the print screen function without thinking, and of course the one that I press the most by accident is the shutdown key. In the end, I just took the keys out of the keyboard for now, and covered the empty hole with the same electrical tape I used on the mouse. The brand is called "Base", but I can't find anything about it with a google search.

It was actually meant to be the light playing out, filtered through leaves. Similar concept, in a way.

Hmmm. That's about the size of the tablet I already had.

I was expecting something the size of a dinner table or something.

I have a cat like that. His name's not as awesome, though.

Cool hat, by the way.

Haha yeah, they make them nearly twice the size, but I'd feel foolish if I got a tablet bigger than my screen XD. Still, in comparison to my older one this is both much more effective and much larger.

For those who are interested, I got the keyboard and mouse as a set that included some dodgy speakers which got fried not long after we began using them. I purchased the set about five years ago from Target, for some $35, and never got to use them since I got a laptop instead, but they have a good home on AI's PC now.

So I used PS to shade and color another hand-drawn pic I did a while back. This one is of Killy, from the manga series BLAME!

Click here for full size (1700 pixels wide)

I had fun using the new brushes that came with the tablet, and the extra brush functions in PS that I've learned to use. After I did the initial colors, they were very bright and unrealistic as PS has a tendency to do, so I made them a bit subdued and played with the darker shadows a bit.
