| Lord of Vampires / God of Vengeance Join Date: Apr 2000 Location: The Planet of Eternal Darkness Gender: Posts: 11,117 Thanks: 3,273 Thanked 580 Times in 364 Posts Blog Entries: 6 | Newbies vs. Veterans OOC: Okay first thing first, any newbies wanting to join this battle must read the rules FIRST !!! Veterans you know the drill. Second, only 4 Veterans and 4 Newbies, I will decide who will be accepted into the battle.... 1.You can use any kind of character you want. I mean that, too - most people make up their own characters, but you can use a character from an anime, a cartoon, a videogame, a book...whatever you want. We're equal opportunity people here. 2. Respect the other writers. I know that sounds very broad, and it is, but I have some particular points to make here. Respect is pretty simple in and of itself, and despite the nature of the place you should be courteous to other writers when you're not in-character. The only really important thing here is If you write someone else's character as doing something (and it's a perfectly acceptable practice), make sure that it's not something that doesn't make sense for that character. To make an example here, if you are fighting someone who's character is a giant, hideous ogre, you would not have them shy away when you pull a pocket knife on them. If they're fearless, don' make them into cowards. If they're smart, don't make them seem like idiots. In fact, Never make your opponent look like an incompetent moron. 3. Don't act uuber-powerful compared to everyone around you. I cannot stress this enough. In a battle this is very important, but it's even moreso for story topics because it can really upset the balance that the topic author is trying to set. I'll get into this in more detail in the topic-specific rules. 4. If your character can transform, he should carry over damage into his other forms. This means that if your leg is cut off and you turn into a werewolf, either that leg should still be missing or you should have some loss of energy that represents it. 5. Writing is not as important in battles as it is in RP topics. I'm going to repeat this again later, but I thought I should state it here: you don't have to write a freaking novel every time you post in a battle, and no one is going to make you feel like less of a battler if you don't use a lot of description. Hell, you can use script format if you want to. In RP topics writing is slightly more important, but if you don't feel like making huge posts when you want to kick the crap out of the other guy, then don't. 6. Only you can say when you lose. The same goes for your opponent: he can't say when you die or get knockd unconscious, and you can't say when he does. Try to be fair and go down when it's realistic. 7. Show damage like it's dealt to you. If you get hit in the face with a hammer, don't just shrug it off. Likewise, if your leg is broken, don't start running around as if nothing's happen. Your leg is broken. Either fix it or limp or run with a lot of pain or something. Just don't ignore it when damage is done. 8. Don't do something that would completely obliterate your enemy in one post. This is kind of hard to define - you can do pretty much anything you want to your enemy, but don't just freaking nuke them or something. Likewise, don't severe their heads, or slit their throats, or do something that there is no way possible they could survive in a thousand years. Try to control yourself. Believe me, you can still be brutal without being cheap. 9. This is going to sound weird, but Assume that you and your enemy are more or less even. He can be infinitely stronger than you, or you can be a lot faster than him, or whatever...but overall they should be an even match for each other, even if it's not in similar areas. For example, a character from Dragonball Z would be on equal footing with a character from Harry Potter. It's weird, but it's how we keep things fair. .................................................. .................................................. ....... The battlefield is in Fangorn Forrest in middle earth. .................................................. .................................................. ....... ![]() The luminescent rays of the moon pierced through the lush canopy of the ancient forest. Only the whispers of leaves rustling in the wind could be heard as the albino figure made its way to the center of this dense fern gully. Once at the center of the massive woods, the vampire removed his cloak and pulled free his weapon of lore. The obsidian colored blade of his sword shone with corrosive energy as he looked around him carefully ready to begin the battle. He would summon forth the ancient ones of the battlefield to this place, and with their combined forces they would march as one army against the new warriors of this land. Those who seek fame and fortune will have to earn it, through blood and sweat. Joker, Lord of Vampires raised his sword high into the air spoke the words of magic and sorcery and summoned forth the Veterans of the Gunjin. Last edited by Joker; 08-07-2006 at 10:04 AM. |

I've been here for two long years, been in over 25 Gunjin Topics, and tend to be here every day, giving advice to newer members and starting "Gunjin Revival" topics. I don't know exactly what I would be classified as, but whatever it is, (I'm hoping its veteran by now) I'm willing to school me some battlers. If you want to, Joker, count me in. Edit: All the way back to THOSE tourneys? Man, I'm nowhere close. Well, I'm really not to be considered a n00b, because in technicality, I've been here for four years (Lurker, reading tourneys back to the seventh (Can't remember who participated in the 7th...). Does that make me a newbie? Last edited by Joker; 08-07-2006 at 12:54 PM.

Your a Senior Member for sure, but as far as Veteran, hmmm let me put this way, you will know that your a veteran if you can honestly say that you participated in the Hyrule Battlefield or the very first installations of the NLBFT. In short the word "Veteran" isn't really used to describe some one who has been here for along time. "Veteran" is used to refer to those writers who started here way back when there was only a group of seven or so different members. The original warriors who's characters appeared at the beginning of the whole BF thing are Veterans. Quote:
Senior Members are members who may not have been here at the beginning but through time and participation contributed greatly to this forum and aided in its popularity. Last edited by Joker; 08-07-2006 at 12:56 PM.

This is how it should be: Noob: Brand new member, wet behind the ears battler, short poster, non-participant in big events. Just new in general. Member: Been here for a year, been in fifteen or more topics, battled enough out of those topics, maybe participated in a tourney of otherwise. Senior Member: as said by Joker "members who may not have been here at the beginning but through time and participation contributed greatly to this forum and aided in its popularity." Vetran: As said by Joker: " In short the word "Veteran" isn't really used to describe some one who has been here for along time. All that I was capable of was nigh incomprehensible babbling, on good days, but I was there. Good time, good times... Now then... I'm good to show little newbs that with some work you can teach yourself how to write off this place. |

As new blood - I'm been battling since 2002 but I started here in late 2003 or 2004. Not to say I haven't made waves, but it's not like I mind knuckle-bombing you golden girls into Generation X. I'll use a character only Wyborn and Joker(few others) will know very well, Alastar the Mad. Last edited by Erdawn Il Deus; 08-08-2006 at 02:14 AM. |

I'mma take it NLBF stands for NintendoLand Battlefield... Oh, the Tournament. I know I participated in at least two of the earlier ones, I think the first but maybe not. I remember fighting in Hyrule Battlefield III, but I know the original one was before I registered. One of my friends fought in that and told me how great it was, but he hasn't posted here in years. So, basically, I don't know what my status is. I've been here for 6 years, though I haven't fought very much in the last 3 or 4. Two days longer than repster. If he was in the first NLBFT I probably was too. Last edited by Bomby; 08-09-2006 at 02:05 PM. |

Veterans : Wyborn, Erdawn, Repster, Joker Newbies : Ghost Kitty, FXGlobal, Bartman, Malik Zaki Jamesha I wanted to put many others into this battle but it would be way to one sided with the amount of seasoned warriors vs. true newbies. Malik although you are a senior member I had to place you with the new group of warriors since most of us will be seeing your style of writting for the first time or at the very least in a long while. You may post your enterances and once everyones character is in the topic the next poster gets first blood. Last edited by Joker; 08-09-2006 at 06:52 PM. |
