^The training island idea sounds wonderful, Blake. I'm thinking it should be made. Any ideas for a name? I was thinking of the name Olympus, with the different areas being named after some of the Greek gods, like a volcanic area being called Hephaestus, for example. Though, it should be more up to you guys.

Also, speaking of the Virtual Hotel, someone needs to bring it back from the grave. It just...died, which was a shame, because a good plot was forming, and I would have liked to see it continue.

Oh, and why not try another Armageddon? This time, have people sign up, and when enough spots are filled, open the thread. If several people do not appear by a certain date without a good reason, then their spot is opened to anyone else. Just an idea.

Announcements and Suggestions for : November, 2007

Alright, folks. Here’s the idea. Over the last couple of months, Gunjin has had an undeniable decline. Activity was, for the most part, limited to the NLBFT for a good, long time. But then, afterward , there was a general burnout. Several of my projects failed, which is a good reason as to why I am hesitant to put together another set of events.

Nonetheless, here are some ideas I have come up with.

1) An RP based on Element Tradition, which was a story I had planned to bring here for help expanding. I think this would be quite interesting, but I feel as if the interest would be choked. If you are interested in this, inquire, and I’ll gladly explain what Element Tradition is.

2) This one is iffy: I wanted to do an RP that is like a torture parlor. Of course, no, this is not based on Saw alone: I just wanted a brutal, grotesque thing about a man who owns a butcher shop, and, of course, has victims running everywhere. Some end up a part of his ‘meat-cutting’ plant, and the others end up fighting amongst themselves to escape his horrible basement. The failed Saw OG proves that this needs structure and such, so I plan to do this much more creatively than the lameass OG in question.

Two suggestions by MC:

A War Games/War Room RP: This was meant to be a sort of combination of an RP and a tournament: a group of hapless fighters are brought in, forced to fight, and then, in the end, ultimately die or move on. Several “generals” and royalty are above, betting on the matches and jeering at each other. This could possibly lead into a large, structured story, or perhaps even the generals and warrior kings may end up fighting each other after their quarrels go unsolved.

A bar crawl: Warriors get drunk, to the best of my understanding, then likely try to either fight or accomplish a goal. Mostly for laughs, as he put it. I don’t like this idea myself, but I decided to put it here.

Suggestions otherwise:

It has been suggested to try another Armageddon. This is not a very thrilling prospect to me; I would have loved to see the first one go as I had planned, but things don’t always work out exactly as they were originally planned to. Although the initial Armageddon was extremely disappointing, we could try again, this time more structured and definitely better planned. Better battlefield, better backstory, better team interaction, et cetera.

As well, the Training Island, in which fights were only to be mock fought, seems more and more appealing. It would allow an experimental, practice-like approach, allowing you to toy around with ideas without having to possibly **** up a perfectly good battle. Also, the Virtual Hotel needs participation by the veterans that once made it huge. Please take this into consideration.

I also had ideas for a FFA and, perhaps, that RP I set up and never posted that I may tweak a bit and then use. Otherwise, I have a few plans that feel like they may work. Only time will tell whether or not they do.

--------

Edit:

Upon further thought, I will certainly be using the RP I never posted, just to see if it gets off the ground. I actually also have a document with some old ideas for topics, so I may polish those brainturds and see if they turn into something interesting. It gives us something to do, and seems like it would be epic.

I also considered Repster's idea for the next Tournament. I will go ahead and respond to that in a new post. Just know this: I'm probably going with a revamped NLBFT, but a third Tournament of Red Lions seems interesting as well. Perhaps the 11th NLBFT should be our last... And we should do a totally different tournament.

1) Any RP that peaks my interest in anyway does not need explaining. It requires being put up so I can join. The very fact that there is some sort of story behind it already is KEY to it.

2) Iffy is the right word to describe my feelings on it, yet it very well could get off the ground nicely.

Mc's ideas:

The first could quite possibly turn out well, or not. Again, it's a simple matter of situation and involvement. I like the possibilities however.

As for the bar crawl, it basically ends up as another "Inn" topic of a different nature. That, or a drunken free for all.

Otherwise.

The training island sounds like a do everything topic. Stories, fights, simple interaction, all converging into one. Again, there is potential for both greatness and a pile of fresh manure.

Free for alls are always iffy, but never a bad idea.

The Red Lions/ NLBF/ Another one Tournament needs to go up at the end of the month. We just need to decide which one, and if the NLBF we will need to clarify what it's about and be picky with the judges, give it a new polish as it were, or maybe just retire it and start up a new one with it's ideal as they should be. I'm leaning towards the last myself.

All of the ideas sounds wonderful, and will hopefully get the Gunjin back on it's feet.

The bar rumble could work out, as it adds more dimensions to participating characters.

EDIT-Oh, and speaking of story topics, I have one in planning, though I'll probably just have it inside the Virtual Hotel if that get active again.

I'm just gonna post here in advance so that I can announce my Story Topic called Wish Chronicles.

It would expand on my characters' dimension(s), and the characters as well.

But, I was really hoping to get the Ten Towers completely done first....I'm still gonna finish it.

By the way, Ten Towers now accepts four people. Go there.

IDEA GET

Basically, inside the topic, you'd have the ability to recreate another person's character's story. It could be told through an old man telling a story, a magna artist brainstorming ideas, or something else completely.

Sorry if it seems a bit confusing: if it is really confusing, I'll elaborate.

Don't kill me if this idea has been used/thought of

Okay, after I have won a couple battles and lost a few, I figured a detailed ranking was a nice idea and could maybe tie into battles somehow. Aside from that, here's my basic idea:

Create a topic and each person's Rank will be listed by Wins, Losses and Draws (with details on circumstances of outcome, including Forfeit, High Ranking Opponents, Handicap Matches, ect.) along with varying Points that could be used for Misc things, such as in Shops or Contracting players for help as Mercs.

Anyone like it?

It seems like a good idea but I see two possible hang ups with it. One getting everyone to agree on a ranking system. Two establishing said ranks I.E. figuring out the proper rank for each BFer and what exactly each rank means.

The mods would discuss the idea amongst themseves, only they have to agree.

Figuring out what each Rank means would be easy: have a set list of meanings and goals nessacary to achieve said Rank listed.

Now, we have known Vets here so, to get them fair starting Ranks, they'll ask for a certain Rank and it'd be voted on. In the end, the mods would have the final say on all matters.

I think that this would give the forum a boost in activity (especially in the long run).

That might work... I don't know maybe I'm just being paranoid but the idea still seems abit iffy to me. As for activity an new RP topic seems like it would be alot of fun.

mmmmm one problem.

The Battlefield is based on two people who square off and cooperate in a battle until one of them lets the other character win.

All I can see this do is cause more matches to trail on. Besides Shops and Mercenaries are essentially useless when you're only limit to a character is ones you put.

(God, why do both Mods have to not be here)

Ranks would just put an unnecessary hangup to things. What we just need is more out-and-out fighting, and people to respond to challenges more. And for people to be more patient.

It's not brain surgery; if there's enough active topics then the rest will follow naturally.

Not here? Me? That's just silly. I'm just sitting back waiting for everything to play out calmly. Seeing what comes of it. It's a suggestion, it required thought. I will not outright deny anything.

Ranks won't work is the conclusion I come to. Rankings might just hurt things more, I've seen to many "ZOMG THE *insert reconisable fighter here* I Can'ts fight youz! RUN AQAY" type of things that would just be made worse by ranks. Or at least that much more obvious. Also, winning, losing, draws are of no true importance whatsoever around here. It's HOW you do it. Far more subjective/objective ( cant remember which is the proper term, to lazy to look up a dictionary). So rankings would get very much confusing to how to award them properly in the long run.

Just look back at some judging in tournaments. Not enough, or to much of one thing or another depending on just 2 people. Rankings just seem like inviting pointless arguments to see who has a bigger E-Manhood at some point.

As was mentioned, and mentioned before time and time again, RP topics, and just general activity is what's needed to get everything running again. Personally, I can't. Tried it, doesn't work. I just can't seem to properly see the "big picture" as it were to run a decent topic well enough.

I'd like to announce a few things really quickly:

1) When I get back, I plan to not only revive that little castle siege topic I had going there for about a day, but also start some other stuff. As one who feels so separate from the world of the Gunjin over the last year, I plan to make a conscious effort to return. Maybe not with a bang, but with some sort of seriousness.

2) I've had some suggestions and **** sent to me, so I suppose I should make up a list of things to make 'official' by vote or something. After all, the NLBFT has been over for a good while, and I'm ready to get something big started again. We could use some of that fire I exhibited a couple of years back, so try to get involved. Start stuff, just keep it fun. Make this place something again. Make it 'rule' again, as Scripture put it. We need it.

And since I just read IRHP's idea, let me go ahead and say 'no' to that as well. Repster summed up why quite nicely.

Internet failing since the snow showed up. First time I've been able to get this far in three days. Posting will be very sporadic depending on just how lucky I get with my connection. Damn internet provider refusing to give my high speed, and not providing proper dial up either.

I really want to start some Gunjin clans and have clan wars... That'd be so fun...

And also, less senior/veteran only RP's, please. That way, there might be a bit more activity to some of the stuff, and everyone can have fun.

"Clan wars" is just another way of saying multiple teams. Multiple team based topic? Do it. Have fun. That's generally my take on most ideas to start a topic or two. Do it.

1-up, I don't know if you've realized this, but there has been no new RP topic in quite some time. And none that has had any real activity in what? Something like at least 4 months for the ten towers...

As for senior/veteran... It does not really exist. The limit is usually "Write coherently and don't try to hijack the topic." Any topic to restrict entry to senior/veteran like that would get changed or locked anyway..

To gain experience requires one to participate. If participation requires experience... how would one of no experience GAIN experience. That right there is a vicious cycle.

I know vicious cycles. I don't like them. Been apart of a plethora of them for over 5 years.

Yes, everything after "Do it." was an excuse to use the word plethora.

Plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, plethora, PLETHORA.
