Winter calls for Winter Warfare.

The field was a simple one. A few inclines here and there with a gentle incline down to the river. The other end held a road. A tree line, and a steep slop ending the field at the other ends. In the summer it was a grass field, but summer had past, and given way to Autumn, and now it was the middle of winter. the river was frozen, and snow covered everything increasing the presence of every curve and flattening others.

It was one of those magical days. The sky was lightly cast over, with a bright shiny sun. The light snowfall slowly adding to the powder already there. This was the weather children everywhere waited for. This was when snow was just the right conscitency to truly mold and work with. This was the time when sliding down a hill got you further everytime as the snow compressed and made a natural path.

One particular young man stood in his fort chuckling to himself. a nice pile of snowball next to his... steel toed safety boots? In knee deep snow? An odd choice for footwear. As was his thin light coat, with it's nice dark green forest camouflage print. Thick winter gloves hung from his wrists by a stand of pink yarn each. His hands covered in much thinner light wool gloves, already damp from working with the snow. His legs were sensibly covered in the bottom half of a snow suit, his face and head obscured by three scarves. Red around his next, plaid around his moth, and red again atop his head. Leaving his glasses, soddered back together at the bridge , and the flesh around them exposed to the weather. His slightly grey flecked hair, bunched together from the scarf, poked six inches in a thick mass more resistant to the cold the the best toque.

Repster pick up a snowball in one hand and held his comically oversize wooden spoon in the other. His voice rang out across the field and beyond. His voice was the low slightly muffled siren's call that would bring others.

"SNOWBALL FIGHT!"

Two halves of a whole were they

"I' e o u eauiu i ie o ea?" Jay said to his lovely wife, Erica, as the two strolled hand-in-hand through the Winter wonderland that this valley became every year.

"h, bt nt s btfl s y, m dr!" Erica replied, giggling and nuzzling her cheek against his. She hung on to his right arm. The arm of the man who was her soulmate and no one else in the universe could ever be him. They truly were one flesh. They completed each other.

...in apparently more ways than one. Had they not been so unfortunate as to cross paths with the evil witch, Spitesbane, they would not have been cursed in such a way that so inexplicably confounded all forms of communication, in polar opposite ways. The witch had tried to drive them away from each other, but the irony of it was too great, and simply brought them closer together.

It was useless to try to get around the curse. They tried speaking, writing messages, and even sign language! But nothing worked. The curse was too strong, affecting everything that they tried to say, and distorting their perception of everything that was said to them, no matter what form of conveyance was used.

"I' o a I e o e i ou..." he said to her.

"nd tht's wh lv y, Jy...."

It had taken years and years of practice. Years and years of getting to know each other before they could understand. No, they didn't understand... they couldn't understand at all... yet somehow... they knew.

Maybe it was their mannerism? Their facial expression, perhaps, that overpowered the curse? Or maybe it was simply two human souls in perfect unity that somehow allowed them to peer into each other's very hearts, to see what they said. All we know, and all they needed to know, was that they could be together.

...
...
...Of course, this ability that lover's had, be it natural or divine, did NOT help them whatsoever in communicating with anyone else... but did they need anyone else?

Jay and Erica: Two Halves of a Whole

* * *

Repster looked down from his fort and saw a man and a woman walking through the valley. He did not see a man and a woman though; what he saw were two targets, and they were in the line of fire. He pondered for a moment before coming to a conclusion: If they weren't going to participate in the skirmish, then they wouldn't be here in the first place!

"o ay ie ou e ae?" Jay asked Erika.

" dn't knw... lt's jst strt wth thr nd thn w'll dcd f w wnt mr."

???
To Repster, they seemed to speak an unknown language. But what they spoke did not matter to him. The only thing that mattered was if they were worthy opponents...

OoC: Ok, so this is going to be awfully lame with only three people, so I hope some people will get their butts in here and state that will be joining in. C'mon people! It's gotta be more than just I, Repster and Saria Dragon!
