Some of the rules are in place to cut down of newbage.

The frashing rule was in for one reason: I don't want to see another Ganondalf. *Shudder* No reason for characters to come into contact, no reason for them to combine, no reason for them to have a single personality completely unlike any of the component characters...

I may be prejudiced, and probably am, but I just don't like characters like that. In fact, I dislike them

*Steps off soap box*

I disagree. Just because you don't like seeing character reahses like that doesn't mean it should even be advised to do the contrary - this is a free forum. If someone wants to be Link, Blue Link, Green Link, Space Link, then he can damn well have the freedom to do so. It's not the colour of your cajones but how well you swing them around in battle, friend. Hell, my frist character was basically Mario with ultra-super-techno gloves. And know what? I still consider him an awesome character. IF we ever have some kind of Retro-theme FFA, I'd love to use him again Besides, chances are these "rip-off" characters will eventually develop into something more original anyway, so either way, it works.

I say give her. But when it counts, back up the guff with some tuff. Link or not, it won't be pretty when I throw you around like a sack of wet laundry (ah-ha).

Sorry, I must be too uptight about this. But taking two random canon characters and... but I digress. I can see where you're headed from. I guess it's just the same thing as my anti-recolour gut instinct. And, again, it can be done well, but it's less likely. 90% is crap, but 90% of everything is crap. I'll live with it.

[Parting Shot] And if the rip-offs are going to evolve anyway, why not give them a gentle nudge in the right direction? [/Parting Shot]

You know what? I agree, completly. This was one of my favorite places back when. We need a big battle and preferably by 2 experienced veterans. That'd get some attention. Maybe someone should hook 2 fighters up...

Oh, and there's nothing wrong with being a variation of a character, if not even the character him/herself. I was "Digimon Hunter" and Mewtwo. I did okay for a newbie IMO.

1. You can use any kind of character you want. I mean that, too - most people make up their own characters, but you can use a character from an anime, a cartoon, a videogame, a book...whatever you want. We're equal opportunity people here. The only stipulation is this: You can't use other people's original characters. Ever. Ever. I know, that should go without saying, but I have to say it.
BUT what if we give them PERMISSION????

(Sorry to revive this, but I think that the previous deserves an answer. Forgive me if I'm out of line.)

It isn't that permission is necessarily a problem, I think. The primary concern is your own skills, your own understanding of your character, and in general terms, your own ability to not suck. Would you rather play an uber-character devised and play-tested by another person, or would you rather create one of your own, SOLELY ON YOUR OWN LAURELS?

Please, remember that it isn't who your character is; it's who you make him/her out to be. Creation is only part of the process, indeed, and is relatively minor (in my opinion) when compared to the actual roleplaying of a character, BUT -- take the whole picture into perspective. Take a step back, look at your thoughts from another viewpoint, and reason with yourself.

If you couldn't tell, I'm against such things as "character shops" and "swapping," on principle alone, basically. But, ehh. Whatever; I don't go here enough to dictate any rulings.

I'll try to remember that. And i do have one question. If i do die. Can i some how survive, and come back into a story later? like an Ominous thing or something. Or can i reincarnate? Or do i need to be revived. It says don't worry about dying. But the RP i came from. Winning is everything. Thanks.

Well in essence your character can die at the end of a fight but every new battle you have with a different opponent means that your character starts fresh and that what ever fate your character suffered in previous battles only pertains to those fights.

What's missing is people who actually finish battles, which is what keeps me from wreaking havoc on some people with my experience.

I think it's probably best to keep the original rules list. If we start tacking on things based more on individual preference than anything else, not only will it get clunky, but the rules will be somewhat scaring people off, which is really not needed.

A note: I realize that we have recently been breaking one of the rules of this forum, and that is telling a person that his low ammount of description is a bad thing. sometimes people just can't stand fighting bad writers, but if you are fighting a vet who posts a novel everytime, and you simply post one paragraph, it's just fine. I was the first to make that mistake, but still...

However, I'm certain that it is okay to set a "No short posts" rule in your personal challenges, just don't go and join a challenge with a wet behind the ears battler and expect him to conform to your style. I've been fretting a bit about that recently, just felt the desire to get it off my chest. Now you can all carry on neglecting to view this thread, you sorry n00bs.

I suppose though I have been in forum role-play and battle before, I am still a newbie here. These rules seem fair enough, but it takes soooo long to accomplish anything, especially when posts may come days apart, killing off an inactive player seems to be a simple way to fix this.
I am happy to report, however that this board seems quite respectable and idiot free.

Have I perhaps found a new home?

Don't kill off inactive people. It's in one of the rules. Only you say when you die, only they say when they die.

Sigh, I got it leave the dead weight alone. Fine then, as one more thing, more an aesthetic than a rule. I believe private messages should just that. This function is there for a reason and saves a lot of wasted space in the threads.

That has already been made quite clear, there is no reason to restate it. Still, OoC's and in-topic-prompts are useful and save the trouble of writing a whole PM where you could simply say it in the topic. Welcome to the Gunjin, by the way, a welcome addition you doth make!
