Lightbulb Logic puzzle/riddle, with eggs.

Here's a little noodle-scratcher that I found to be interesting:
Quote:
If a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how many hens to lay six eggs in six days?
I'll post link to answer shortly.

Arrow It'd also be nice if you explained how you got those answers.

Sorry, both incorrect. Please try again.

Is this one of those riddles where something about the gender screws everything up?

Well, assuming the chicken is the same as the hen, I figure that if a chicken can pull off an egg and a half in a day and a half, that's pretty much the same rate as one egg a day. So I would think Codie's right, one chicken can pull off six eggs in six days. I dunno where my answer came from, probably out my ass or something.

If one and a half chickens lay one and a half eggs in one and a half days, that means that one and a half chickens will lay an egg a day. So in six days, those one and a half chickens will lay six eggs.

That's assuming there's not part of the riddle having to do with nonsense like halves of chickens and halves of eggs.

Alright, I think I've forgotten about this thread enough.

It's funny because I totally sucked at work problems in ninth grade. I guess this wasn't a very hard one. I still hate them. And math in general.

I liked how it was not very intuitive; you'd think to get six, you just increase every number to six, and voila. Add to the fact that it's a ridiculous number (one and a half), but it still holds when it's a rounder number (like three).

I still say me and "Marilyn" are right. If you go about it logically, and not mathematically. >_<
