vBulletin to charge members for posts.

I just got a message that vBulletin has incorporated a new feature on all of it's hosted forums, including VGF. Apparently, members will have to charge 10 cents for every post they make and 15 for PMing. They say it's because of pricing inconviences. If this is the case, then I'm outta here.

What medium did the message come to you through? I haven't heard anything like that.

Not to mention, how would that be possible? I mean, when you sign up for VGF, don't you only have to sign up your email? They have no personal information beyond that, so I don't see how they could "charge" anything...

But this sounds awfully far-fetched anyway.

It wouldn't make sense for VBulliten to even consider that as a means of profit. VBulliten sells server space. Every action occurs within that server space that someone has "rented out". Shane "rented out" server space and has free reign over it right now. This joke is labeled with a PHAIL.

This idea might actually work on some places, considering one is able to charge for assets such as sigs and avatars here, which are freely given almost everywhere else for free, including my lowly forum.

That said, somethingawful charges for membership in general, so it could always be worse.
