^No.

Instead of guessing for the answer by altering parts of Irby's response, why not continue with the yes-no format and, if you like, use Irby's response as kind of a springboard. It just might be faster, and probably more amusing.

Oh yes, and the link Val posted has a more complete version of that answer, so if you want to find the missing piece(s) on your own, don't click it.

He remembered that he forgot to go for a swim before eating.

Unfortunetley he didn't hear what happens if you swim after eating.

Okay, interest has dwindled enough. Here's my version of the answer:

Spoiler Below
The man and his best friend had been in the Merchant Marine, and one day their crew was caught in a hurricane and was shipwrecked. During the chaos of the storm, the man was in an accident that cost him his sight. The man, his friend, and some of the crew were able to reach a desert island via lifeboat, but their food supplies were exhausted within hours. Unbeknownst to the man, one of the crew members killed the man's best friend, and the remaining crew members ate him. When they gave the blind man his share, he asked them what he was eating. They told him it was a seagull. When the blind man realized his best friend was missing, the crew told him that he had tried to swim for shore. Rescue came shortly thereafter, and the blind man came to question the events of the catastrophe. He went to the restaurant to see if he recognized the taste of seagull, and when he didn't, he realized the truth, and in his horror he drowned himself.
