Azure Dreams was a PSX and GBC game from Konami that I somehow wonder if it's the father of Yu-Gi-Oh. In this game, you try to climb a 30-floor tower while you collect monster eggs, hatch them, then train the monster to help you through the tower. The game is actually closer to Pokemon than Yu-Gi-Oh is, since you actually raise the monsters. However, unlike Yu-Gi-Oh, Azure Dreams wasn't all that popular.

Anybody else play this game, or know anything about if there's a connection between it and Yu-Gi-Oh?

Well, I think another company came up with Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Konami just markets the games. I guess it's just a coincidence. I've never played it.

The PSX version actually kind of common at the Gamestops around here. But if you're still having no luck, try eBay.

The GBC one, I've never seen at Gamestop, and I've only seen on eBay once.

Considering Yu-Gi-Oh is just a ripoff of the hundreds of other ripoffs of the hundreds of other monsters game, it might well be.

I remember that game as a mix between Diablo, Pokemon, and Harvest Moon. The kinda cool aspect was the relationships you can strike up with the girls (all eight of 'em; Koh is such a player) and the building up of the town through your generous contributions.

The ending had a pretty good twist, but it doesn't really have much replay value beyond that.
