Retro Studios Reunites with Samus
Studio begins work on Metroid Prime sequel.

January 23, 2003 - Sources at Texas-based Retro Studios told IGNcube this morning that the company is in planning stages for a sequel to the hit GameCube adventure Metroid Prime. Executives at the company recently made an internal announcement to employees that the project has been cleared by Nintendo.
No details were given about the sequel, but one employee under the condition of anonymity did note that team members were throwing around the idea of including a multiplayer mode in the sequel.

No release date has been set for the project, but a tentative date of sometime in 2004 is likely.

We contacted Nintendo for official comment, but the company did not return our phone calls in time for publish.

We will of course be tracking the development of the game over the next several months. Stay tuned to the site for more.

It better be 3rd person. Not that It was bad as an FPS,but it would be so much more fun to be in a 3rd person 3D environment.

I don't blame you for that comment. There are many that want Samus to return to her superhuman form, and 3rd person is the way to go for that. Question is, where will the game take place? For the record, it cannot be Metroid 2.5, as Samus spends pretty much her entire time at the Ceres Academy while researchers studied the Metroid hatchling.

I think it will be in 1st person again. Check the tenative date, sometime in 2004. No way they are going to redo the entire play mechanics, and put a game out in that time, even if it is just tenative. For story line, it could either be 3.5 or 5, but I have a feeling it will probably be 3.5, just judging by the fact that Inteligent Systems did 4, and Retro did 1.5, it looks like a trend that could follow. OR, Retro could pull a 1.75, or something like that.

Another prequel to Metroid II? What could it be about, it says the pirates split between Zebes and Talon IV... If there were more Metroids to be dealt with, it wouldn't be with pirates...

I didn't say that it was a prequel to Metroid 2, I was just saying that because there is no real timeline indicators of how long it was between Metroid and Metroid 2, it COULD be another prequel. Being inbetween 3&4, or after 4 is much more likely.

I was speaking hypothetically, as in "what could they do in between game X and game X?".
