Angry Official Metroid: Dread Speculation (spoilers)

So, MP3:Corruption actually references the project. We don't have any clue as to what sort of game is going to come out of it, but a scan in a Space Pirate research station actually remarks about the goings-on of project Metroid: Dread. That in itself is a major red flag that the game is at least in pre-development.

I'm hoping it will be another 2D game, for the sake that the 2D series needs a continuation. People applaud games like GTA for its immense, free-to-explore format, but the first 2D adventure games by Nintendo such as The Legend of Zelda or our lauded Metroid have done just as much easily a decade before the first GTA-style games appeared.

Opinions? Feel free to post about anything that you'd like to see in the game, as well as what you think of the references made in Corruption.

I think a 2-D game for the DS would be spankety. It should probably also take place after Fusion so it would be Metroid 5, continuing the actual series.

Personally, I think the scan is just a little poke at the fans.

^ I was thinking they might have done it just to please the fans, but I don't think Nintendo would tease us that badly. They almost never talk about games that are even in development these days, and they certainly don't seem the types to go feeding rumors without a decent reason.

A DS game would please me, Daos, but a new 2D Metroid on the Wii would be orgasmic. I'm almost certain it would be Metroid 5. They've crammed so much crap between the other games, there's kind of a breaking point - And Ninty seems to want to maintain the continuity of this series (Unlike Zelda, which they obviously don't care about - or Mario, which never had any to start with).

Okay, thanks. That's the scan I was referring to in the first place.

Someone from Nintendo says it was just a coincidence.

But who knows.

I'd like to think it would be pretty hard for someone to accidently reference something with exact wording. Nintendo has always been tight-lipped about new products, especially when they're not showable yet. Plenty of projects get canned after months of work without anyone ever hearing about it.

I really hope they do a proper sequel to Fusion (a Metroid 5), and I'd like to think the 2D format is still viable. After all, plenty of 2-dimensional games are selling on the DS. They left the series wide open for sequels, so it's pretty obvious that we'll get something eventually - even if it's another FPS.

I'd like to see more original ideas and environments, as well. Skytown was rather amazing, and I never expected it from Metroid.

I'd like to point out that Skytown's planet (Elysia) means paradise.

That's not surprising. It was breathtaking. I keep thinking back to it, wanting to play the game just to see it again.

Still no actual new info for Dread though. I'm becoming very disapointed. I really think they need to remember their 2-D Metroids.

I have no idea what Dread is going to be like if they're working on it, but I keep hoping.

I wouldn't expect to hear much from Nintendo until they think it's ready to promote. They'll play up the hype before its release, I'm certain. I'm pretty sure there's a "Dread" project in the works, just because of all the hearsay and that scan in Prime 3. I'd bet a few on it, let's say.

1. Elysia is possibly my favorite level in any video game, ever.

2. I would love to have another sidescrolling Metroid, like none other. However, I really didn't like Fusion all that much, and I hope they stay away from sequelling that one.

I don't have a problem with a sequel to Fusion, they'd probably bring back the sexy-as-hell Varia Suit, or at least some incarnation. Or at least I think they'd make the Fusion Suit less hideous. Well, that and they seriously need to not have a computer that orders you around. Exploration driven gameplay = funner + more hours of play.

It'd be cool to see the return of the SA-X. I think I'd like to see them take the series' art style in a more realistic direction, too. The level of detail in Metroid Pinball was pretty nice, and they could take some notes from that.

Basically, I expect Samus to take on the Galactic Federation to eradicate the Metroid threat in the next game. You would have to expect them to have created more Metroid clones from the ones on the station in Fusion.

I am defintally liking the whole idea of taking on the Galactic Federation. Although from the way I understood it Samus needs to protect the Metroids now. They are the only thing that can fight the parasites. I think I read somewhere that the Chozo created them too.

Yeah, but the Metroids being created by the Chozo is something they added in afterwards, as a kind of unnecessary linkup between concepts. Nintendo has a way of doing that, and it annoys me immensely. They did the same thing with the Wrecked Ship, which was supposed to be the ruins of an ancient ship - not the Space Pirate's mother ship (which looked only vaguely similar to the wrecked ship).

I don't know what they'll do with the X parasite, honestly. The reason why the Metroids needed to be eradicated from SR-388 was because they were going through their stages of maturation, and it was thought that they would become space-faring if left alone.

Chozo created everything, just like the Xel'Naga and the great old ones, and the Illuminati and some other people.

Also Elysia was awesome, someone should make a new genra of Sci-fi and name it rocketpunk hurf durf

And yes, we need a new 2-d metroid.

^ Steam-punk is actually pretty close to Elysia, just without the elegance. I loved all the gear-work the most. It made me want to be able to build little automated things with gears.

That's what I love about it too, AI. It's like people in the 1800's learned how to rocket-propel a city into the air. The gears, the steam engines, everything in that level was just brilliant and almost mind-boggling. I'm a huge fan of floating levels, though. TP's city in the Sky is my favorite level in that game, and Exire was a really cool city in ToS.

And concerning Fusion, Adam is the reason that I didn't like the game. I didn't like being told what to do in a Metroid game. It was the complete opposite of Super Metroid, which was basically "Here, this is the world. Have fun with it." Fusion was all "YOU GO HERE NOW. IN SOVIET RUSSIA, GAME PLAYS YOU."

So yeah. If they do sequel Fusion, they better go back to a more classic Metroid approach.
