The other day, I was randomly going through some of my magazines when I came across the official Starfox 64 guide. Now, I like looking through the official Nintendo guides because they often have little extra tidbits of information to the story and the characters that you wouldn‘t find in the game. At least, I know the older ones do, like with Mario RPG. Whether or not they still push themselves in that area, I don’t know - I haven’t looked at a new one in a while.

Anyway, while looking at the book, I came to the description for Sector Z. The book went on to say that in addition to the magnetic storms that plague the area, the sector is also littered with debris from an epic battle that took place decades ago. What’s my point to all this? The battle is said to have been between the Cornerian fleet and a group only identified as “Space Pirates.”

Now this is quite a large leap, but wouldn’t it be interesting if these Space Pirates were the same ones from the Metroid series? Also taking into consideration that the Chozo were defined as a bird-like race, somewhat humanoid in appearance… and looking at Lylat, which has anthropomorphic animals everywhere…

Just a thought.

Interesting. Maybe the Cornerian Army drove the Space Pirates out of their section of the galaxy, so they travelled over to the one in Metroid and wreaked havoc there.

*Scratchs chin.*

Wow. That's actually pretty cool.

I wouldn't mind seeing Fox and Samus working together for once (other than SSB), as long as they don't crapify it in some way, like they usually do. Something like a 'recon missions' would be nice.

Very interesting idea. Question is, was it cooked up solely by the guys creating the guide just to help 'enhance' it? Who knows...

Maybe this is just me, but I think any cross between Starfox and Metroid would suck **** , as it were.

Starfox would make Metroid lamer if they were combined. Lets leave them seperate.. Where Metroid just looks better by comparison.

That's an interesting theory. I just don't think the two should be crossed over.

The Capcom Vs. series is an example of a good cross-over. Metroid and Star Fox, on the other hand, are simply too different, even if you consider Star Fox Adventures.

I'll second the notion that the only cross-over they should be involved in is another Super Smash Bros. game.

Good question, LTS… I guess I always considered it to be authentic info since it’s from the “official” guide. But I’ll cross check the editors of the book with the credits in SF64 to see.

As far as crossovers go, I actually agree with most of you guys in that a direct link between Starfox and Metroid would be hard to do - and not have it ruin both games. The Super Smash Brothers games work well with crossing worlds because there’s no true story or even an actual reason why everyone’s there. They just are, so have fun. Such would not be the case with any other game. Yes, Metroid and Starfox are too different to directly involve each other - indirectly however, may be another story.

I still like the idea that it could have been the Metroid Space Pirates simply because that can be obscure. Think about it; if future Starfox games ever go into detail about the battle in Sector Z, (assuming the guide was not fabricated as LTS suggests) it could depict the band of pirates simply as invading aliens from outside the system. No references to Earth, Samus or anything else from the Metroid games would need to be included. As far as the players are concerned, the pirates were just that - aliens to fight. Anyone who might catch the reference could enjoy the novelty, but for those who didn’t notice, it wouldn’t be a big deal as no further links would be given. But that’s my opinion.
