well I know the wii is coming out soon but perhaps they could remake Super Metroid and Metroid II so that they mesh with the PRIME games better like they did with Zero Mission. just a suggestion though.

I don't really see why they should have to remake older games to compensate the flaws in the newer ones. It would really be a shame to see someone ruin a masterpiece such as Super Metroid.

oh no, I'm not suggesting completely remaking the thing, I meant like adding more to it like the Chozodia area since it's in zero mission and maybe a few enhancements here and there, well for super metroid anyway. maybe have the controlls similar to Zero Mission.

as for metroid 2, well that's a different matter. for one the weapon system for it needs to be upgraded so that you don't have to backtrack halfway across the planet every time you need a specific weapon, upgrade the graphics to GBA level standards, add the super missles and power bomb, upgrade the look of samus' suit, basicly it needs a complete upgrade.

I do agree that a remake of Metroid 2 would be nice, but modifying Super Metroid for no reason other than making it fit all nice and comfy with Metroid Prime or Zero Mission is just foolish. I was bothered enough that in Zero Mission they tried to explain the Wrecked Ship with the Space Pirate's big carrier ship. There was no reason to have to do that, they just did it because they thought it would be neat. Unfortunately, it just creates contradiction with Super Metroid's explanation of the ship. If Gunpei Yokoi were still around, crap like that would never have happened. It's unfortunate that we lost one of the most creative minds of the videogame business.

The original reason for Zero Mission to have Chazodia was to explain the sector of the game that exists in Super Metroid with the wrecked ship.

As for Metroid 2, RoS needs a complete overhaul, although I did see a store have it for sale for like $20 the other day... I might go back and buy it on the 23rd

I recently played through and beat Metroid II, and I did enjoy it. I think a remake would be good, though.. And a proper remake, not like some crappy "update" like the Mario Advance series or LttP, where they basically just add in some repetitive "voice-acting" to make the game worse. I don't really think they'd mess with Metroid II, though. There's a lot of respect for the memory of Yokoi at Nintendo, as far as I can see, and Return of Samus was kind of his baby.

And I would always rather see something original, rather than a remake - even if it's a good remake.

^When you beat MP it says special thanks to Gunpei Yokoi in the credits in unusually large letters.

I agree 100% with that statement. Except the part about the Mario Advance series. SMB2 Advance sucked but the others ruled.

Yeah, I'm aware of the nod to Yokoi. I am the mod here, afterall.

And just like the LttP port; the Mario Advance titles were all okay, but none of the things they changed were for the better.

Must haves/obvious improvements for a potential Metroid II remake:
- Larger area displayed on screen
- Music that fits the game
- Varying landscapes

I feel terrible. I still haven't actually attempted to beat Metroid II.

I wouldn't hold it against you. I think Metroid II is actually made to discourage people from playing it. It's very daunting, not really having any direction for where you're going - or even being unable to recognize if you've been there before, aside from the shapes of the rooms. The further into the game you get, the more recognizable it all is.

What did help me, and I wouldn't have been able to figure out where the hell I was going without it, was a map GIF that someone's put up on GameFAQs. I just inverted the colors on it, and printed it out (I inverted it, because I didn't want it to print the whole thing with a black background - easier on the ink usage). Good luck with that, if you plan to try. Obviously, I'd recommend that you only consult the map if you absolutely have to.

It woule be awesome if 2-D Metroid games were still being made. A Super Metroid port for the DS would be just excellent, though not a remake in the sense of Zero Mission. The game's okay perfect as it is, and the DS controller makes it playable enough.

I agree that a port of Super Metroid to the DS would be nice, but we'd be much, much better off with a new 2d Metroid for the DS. The latest Castlevanias have been flourishing on the DS.

of course with it ported to the DS,, and to take it to it's fullest potential, Super Metroid could use some new features. for instance with the DS the map could be on constant displayand touching the L/R icons near the bottom you could switch between the map and the armor screens and touching one of the features of the suit could activate/deactivate that featureof the suit. (different beams, etc,) and with a DS card they could expand it to be even better than it's origonal SNES counterpart.

A DS version is much more likely than a GBA Port/remake. At this point, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Mother 3 have pretty much put the final nail in the GBA's coffin. Pretty much all developers' attention is pointed at the DS and PSP anyway - The only GBA games that'll probably be released are the obligatory Fall Movie-licensed games that most people overlook in the first place.

It's pretty much time to say "Adios, buddy" to the Game Boy Advance, because there isn't really anything more to look forward too unless you live in Europe and want Final Fantasy VI Advance. It's had a good run, at least.

I'm seriously skeptical as to what sort of "improvements" they might make. If you mean adding voice acting and changing graphics and/or enemies, I'd rather they didn't, and I wouldn't bother buying it. The game is just about perfect the way it is, and they'd only be messing it up to change something unnecessarily. The only thing they could really improve upon would be the controls.

If they wanted to go ahead and do something like a multiplayer game, in addition to the classic form, I'd be all for it. That would be spectacular. It would take a lot of ingenuity, though.

Doug, what do you mean by "Diamond/Pearl and Mother 3 put the final nail in the coffin"? Aren't D/P selling well?

Chunky, what he meant was that things on the DS are selling so well that Nintendo might not want to go back to making GBA games anymore.

Then what did he mean Mother 3 put the final nail in the coffin?

Isn't it selling well in Japan?

For the GBA?
