Mother 3 was pretty much the last notable game on the Game Boy Advance, and it's been confirmed that there are no plans on continuing the Mother games or releasing it overseas. If they did take the time to translate Mother 3, it probably won't sell so well because Diamond and Pearl among other DS games are selling so well already.

That, and Americans have a tendency to overlook some games released after a newer-system is out. Remember Kirby Superstar?

Ah, OK.

Also, are you aware of the fan-translation projects by Starmen.net and mother3.org?

Yep. But that won't count towards Nintendo's sales at all and is technically illegal, but has anyone actually gotten in trouble for emulating?

That's a good question. Here's how modding works: It's not illegal to create an external file which can modify an existing ROM file, and distribute it. It is illegal to distribute a ROM file to those who do not already own a copy of it. So people, by whatever means, get a hold of the game ROM, and combine it with a .IPS file.

As far as emulation in general goes; it's not copyright infringement to create something that uses different ends to achieve the same effect as an original patented device. It would be illegal to outright clone a patented system, but no one does. A company such as Nintendo can shake their finger at you, and try to tell you that it's unnecessary to make a more dependable copy of the software they've sold to you, but they can't do anymore than that if you copy the ROMs of your games. Also, many ROM sites make you agree to a disclaimer that you will not download any ROMs that you have not purchased. It's what they call a "grey zone", where both sides are holding some of the cards.

Nintendo will turn a blind eye to the fan-translations of Mother 3, just as they did with the first Mother game, I can almost guarantee it.

..But this is getting pretty far off topic. Is that a good enough explanation?

Yeah, AI basically said what I was thinking. It's not illegal to translate a Japan-only game.

Anyway, SM for the DS would work well. Depends on if they'd make use of the touch screen for it or not.

I think the touch screen would work well for the equipment selection screen, but they probably wouldn't be able to make it work any better for the whole missile/supermissile/etc system than just a toggle button.

All the same, I'm sure they would just put the map on the second screen. You'll have to have a pause function no matter what, so it doesn't make sense to convert all of the pause menus to the touch-screen.
