Thumbs up Metroid Prime 2D

I figured I should make a topic here about this project, as they just updated their site for the first time in 3 months.

http://www.mp2d.co.uk/

Apparently, a new build demo is promised to be on the way. The shots have been more and more tantalizing, and I'm getting very hopeful for this project.

Now, I know the first thing on many of your minds is Ocarina of Time 2D being cancelled, but before you go on to say this will be shutdown as it was... Well, it's been a matter of ongoing discussion with the guys working on MP2D, and I've heard that the guy doing OoT2D just made the whole thing up to get all of the pressure of expectations off his back. I don't know if it's true or not, but I wouldn't be suprised.

Thoughts/ideas?

I heard about this around last year, I'm surprised they haven't been sued by nintendo's robo-lawyers yet.

I'd be surprised if they bother. It's not really any threat to them, and they're not like Square or anything. Fangames aren't too uncommon.

You didn't even read the first post, did you?

Looks cool, but some of this stuff clashes from being made by different artists. None the less, it'll be interesting to see how it develops.

I noticed that, as well.. I suppose they don't have quite talented enough sprite artists to follow one lead artist, being that it's all volunteer. I wish they hadn't stopped taking on offers for media resources, because I could make some amazing stuff for them. Hell, if they'd let me, I'd make an all-mp3 soundtrack for the game, but they're taking the low (low, low, lowww) road and apparently have decided that midi files are "good enough" and all that... And well, for me, music has always been very important in setting the mood.

Nonetheless, I've seen clips of this for sometime, and I've seen the project slowly mature. Surely, it will be worth a shot when it's finished.

As for PHOBOS, well, read the first post before you say something ignorant again. The "reason" why OoT2D was cancelled was that the programmer had been using content (read:LttP art) that Nintendo claimed rights to. What I've heard the real story to be is that he was bs-ing, and most of the fangame community that's involved in MP2D claims to know it. As I said, I didn't bother to investigate further, because it's not my place to say or care.. I'm just another mindless fan.
