How does Samus aim?

She doesn't exactly have a sights anywhere on her beam-arm-cannon.

Anyone want to hazard a guess? I very vaguely have some idea of sensors measuring the trajectory.

^ That's what I was going to suggest.

And probably the best idea I could muster up.

I don't see how sights would help her, anyway. You ever tried looking down the length of your forearm? Doesn't work too well unless you're holding your arm pretty much straight out from your shoulder, or leaning your head way the hell over to that side.

I wonder if Samus' arm ever gets tired from always having to hold it out in front of her...

Maybe her arm cannon has a means of painting a target so that she can see it with her visor.

Maybe she just shoots from the hip.

Hey, here's an idea--little camera just above the gun aperture. Feeds directly into her helmet HUD, either in the form of targeting information, or an actual live feed she can watch (akin to those awesome 'shoot from around the corner' camera/gun jobs the Israelis developed for urban warfare).

Natural skill after all that Chozo training, I assume.

Yeah, I could see that working. Like a camera with a crosshair lined up dead-on permanently. That would be pretty effective.

I was actually wondering if there was some sort of system where she clenches her pinky or something and the arm locks up or freezes, so she can give her arm a rest. Or maybe the suit's life support system actually taps into her nerves and intercepts muscle-commands to her body, and moves the arms automatically.

Augmentation systems as they work currently pick up pressure from inside the suit in a certain direction and then activate the motors in that direction. Neutral pressure would mean no movement.

She probably uses Trillian.
I was thinking something along the lines of AI or Boo; some mechanism on the cannon itself supplies her with an accurate HUD crosshair.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I like to believe its all done by skill and talent alone. Call me old fashioned but the idea of some bad ass woman who can shoot the mitochondrial fibers off a metroid using a hand held water gun filled with piss and vinegar, sounds more appeasing to me, than if I were to find out that her crack shot aim originated more or less from some computer device. The lady who’s aim is a perfect mix of natural talent, refined skill and little bit of luck can be my Samus anyday.

What Kargath said. She probably picked up some good hand-eye coordination during her training.

Besides, it's Samus. She doesn't need fancy computers to get the job done. She can kick serious ass even when she's half-naked.

Yeah, the cannon probably provides a visual representation of where the shot would go in the form of a crosshair, as people have suggested.

I think the suit locks it in place.

^Yeah, there's probably a locking mechanism in the suit; likely in that enormous shoulder of her's.

Then again, she only has her arm raised in the 3-D games. In the 2-D platformers, she always held the blaster in place with her other arm.
