Exclamation Metroid: Dread Acknowledged by Nintendo

In an interview with the Metroid series director Sakamoto concerning Metroid: Other M, Kotaku asked if the M:OM was the final incarnation of the much-rumored Metroid: Dread project. Sakamoto replied "The day may come when Dread hits the stores, but this one is something that's completely different. This is other M."

Here's the original writeup, over at Kotaku:

Kotaku - Nintendo: New Metroid Is NOT Metroid Dread - Metroid

Fans of 2D Metroid games rejoice, Nintendo actually does have a Dread project in the works.

I thought Dread was supposed to be a handheld game anyway.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yeah, but a lot of people were saying that MOM was, like, the mutated Dread project.

Well, we knew that it is rumored to be another side-scroller, but that's about it. If it turns out to be a 2D DS game, I'll wet myself. I'd rather a full on home-console game, though. The DS is cool for a portable, but I always prefered playing my GBA and Gameboy games on my Gameboy Player, anyway. The full-size screen is just so much more enveloping. As far As M:OM goes, I'm not sure what to expect from the gameplay. Possibly a 2.5D game that occasionally switches to 1st-person?

I'm thinkin' it'll be a 3D platformer, but there will be certain weapons that switch you into first person sometimes, similar to how the morph ball switched you into 3rd person in the Primes.

I'm not sure how aiming will work in that sense, but that's what it looked like to me. But, there were a few clips that looked more 2-D...so I have no clue.

I'm also interested in how the close-combat is supposed to work, since they've never done that in a Metroid before.

I'll bet it's something like the Ninja Gaiden Black controls.

^Yeah, those open so slowly, & you can't use any other programs on them.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

True double true. I think the most annoying thing being that every time they update the format, you have to download the new version of the player. Like they've never heard of ****ing codecs.
