Metroid Prime Trilogy No Longer Being Shipped

Metroid Prime Trilogy No Longer Being Shipped

Quote:
If you haven't purchased Metroid Prime Trilogy but still plan to eventually, your window of opportunity is closing fast. Coffee with Games reports (via Kotaku) that Nintendo has confirmed the game is "no longer being shipped," meaning if your local game retailers are all out of their new copies, you're likely stuck looking in the used section.

"Unfortunately, Metroid Prime Trilogy is no longer being shipped. Having said that, you may be able to find what you seek through the secondhand video game market," read a response from Nintendo about the status of Metroid Prime Trilogy. A later response added a bit more information, if not any more clarification: "When first introduced, it was announced that there would be limited availability. However, a reason for this was not announced."

The end result is a compilation that was only at retail for about four months -- a fairly unusual situation. This also marks the first New Play Control! title (adding Wii motion controls to the first two Metroid Prime games) to be discontinued, but Nintendo did make clear the other New Play Control! games (Pikmin, Mario Power Tennis, and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat) "are still being shipped."
And I'm damn glad I got my copy.

I have my old versions, so, no big loss for me.

Still, it's weird.

I wonder what its performance was like? Maybe they're concerned about it cutting into Prime 3 sales, if they're still shipping that.

Wierd, it was doing pretty well. Maybe it was meant to be a sort of "Metroid Prime: Special Edition for a Limited Time" sort of thing. Luckily, I have a copy.

Knowing Nintendo, they probably want to sell the games individually.

^ Yeah. If they do ever make a collection, it has to have been a while since the games were released. Like Zelda Collection for the Gamecube.

Well, it's not like any major retailer is stocking GameCube games anymore.

Gamecube games still hide out, but only in dedicated game stores with the room to still stock 'em.

But those are just secondhand copies that Nintendo probably doesn't get any kick-back from.

THAT SUCKS!

But before I get too carried away, what's the difference from buying the individual games?

Prime 1 and 2 were released for the GCN, meaning they are incompatible with the very-competent Wii editions' controls, unless purchased in the Trilogy. Additionally, there are more extras included a small printed art-booklet, some minor textures have been improved in the earlier games, and MP1 includes the voice acting that only the PAL versions received. The enemy count has also been increased in certain instances, to accommodate the much more responsive controls. Similarly, Metroid Prime 2 received significant extra tweaking to make it more playable, because of certain unintended difficulty spikes that plagued the original GCN version.

Notably, in Prime 1 (and presumably 2) some lens-effects have been removed from the charged up beam-cannon in favor of a free-moving cannon that follows your aim. Strangely, the water ripple effect has also been removed from Prime 1, although no explanation was issued for that effect removal, to my knowledge.
