Exclamation Samus and Ridley to appear in DOA: Dimensions

Now isn't that cool. The stage design comes from Other M, which isn't surprising considering that Team Ninja, who are responsible for the development of Other M, are also responsible for the Dead or Alive series. This particular title is due to release as a near-launch title for the 3DS.

I've never been a big DOA fan, myself, preferring faster 2D fighters like Guilty Gear. What are your thoughts?

AND THEN SAMUS CAME

This is pretty interesting, definitely reminds me of Link being in SCII.

Yes, it's obviously remniscent of the Soul Caliber guest appearances. I'm glad to see Metroid getting some love, although it's always amusing to see her abilities toned down to allow fair competition in these versus games.

It's not gonna be much of a fight if she spends all of her time attacking the background...

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Toning down abilities is nothing new for the series - the Spartan guest would have been funny with a Needler, though

I'm not really into fighting games, but I have played DOA2 with my cousins. I really like the attack/grab/counter system it has, and when you learn the characters' moves, you can get on a roll with owning your opponents. The counter system really shuts down button mashing tactics too, since once you find out what height the attack is (high, mid, low), you can reverse the attack and deal massive damage.

Re: Samus in DOA: D, this tickles the part of my brain devoted to taking video game assets from one genre and placing them in other genres. Samus is a great character and has lots of game mechanics which work well in the action/platformer genre (which transfer over quite well into the Smash Bros. series), but they'll probably have to tone down the arm cannon/missile firing thing if they're doing a hand-to-hand fighter.

DOA is all right in my book, but it plays more like the Tekken side of the fighter genre, which is really more like a wrestling game with all of its holds-based moves that look blatantly orchestrated. My favorites in the genre have always been Killer Instinct and Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Bloody Roar has had some seriously great high points, despite just being a Soul Caliber kind of twist about it. I like the whole transforming theme a lot, and it feels a lot like it adds the same sort of level to fighting as tag-team games like MvsC2 do, if not as much.

I generally prefer fighting games with simple inputs and more of a focus on positioning, timing and choosing the correct attacks. My favourite traditional fighting game is Soul Calibur II.

Thumbs up

^Yes. Soul Calibur owns all, especially the second one.

I saw the Samus video in the 3DS discussion thread, and now it is going to be even easier to justify buying a 3DS. I play SF, MvC, Tekken, SC, and just about every fighter that comes out. DOA is one of the very few mainstream fighters I have not yet played, and this will make a perfect chance to pick it up.
