Playing the Games in Order (canon)

Have you guys ever played all of the big title Metroid games in the order of their stories? That's what I'm doing, currently.

Metroid/Zero Mission
Metroid: Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid II: Return of Samus
Metroid III: Super Metroid
Metroid: Other M
Metroid: Fusion

I'm currently on Prime, I decided to play the Trilogy versions this time through. I was considering having a hi-res run via the Dolphin, but it still has some issues with the heat visor and a bossfight music, so I'll put that off until it's working 100%.

I'm lucky to even beat a Metroid game at all, a marathon would break me.

No Hunters? I refuse to recognize your 'marathon' as a legitimate.

I've never played all the games in order before.

The closest I've come is playing the Prime Trilogy in order.

Doesn't matter what anyone else says: I've played it, the controls are deplorable, and it lacks for singleplayer. The fact that it was designed from the ground up as an almost exclusively multiplayer game is like raging that I didn't play Quake 3 in my runthrough of 1,2, and 4. Besides, the glitches absolutely ruined it for anyone that cared.

The Metroid custom.

Just sequence-break from Zero Mission to Fusion.

Funny you say that AI since I have been doing the same exact thing. I just finished Prime 3.

Wait, why did you put Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission on the same line? I hear from a really credible person they are not the same game!

I'm still on the tale end of Prime 2, finishing it got postponed for more new games! My backlog doesn't seem to shrink in size, these days.

Daos, that is a very entirely good point. I'm actually going to play the original Metroid through at the end, since it takes place in an alternate reality where swimwear fashion is the iron law, and Justin Bailey its king.

That's cool. If I remember right, the Justin Bailey code led to something like a whole different world to explore.

Actually, it's just a code that leaves you toward the end of the game with the wrong beam, as I recall. Good times, though. There are "secret worlds" in the original Metroid, though, due to the way the game reuses rooms. You can cause a glitch similar to SMB's minus world that gets you into duplicate areas.

Here's some more info on the subject, if you're interested:

Secret World - Wikitroid, the Metroid wiki - Metroid: Other M, Metroid Prime 3, Metroid Prime 2, Super Metroid, and more

Some of them seem to be caused by the game being built to originally work on the Famicom Disk System, which was a floppy drive with double-sided discs requiring to be manually flipped over. The elevator would be the time during which the disk is flipped, afaik, and traveling from one area to another while skipping the elevator load sequence on the US cartridge, for instance, skips important graphics loading functions.

The "secret worlds" in the Prime games aren't actually anything like a secret world, and are usually just examples of the game player finding a way outside of the world model into the default background.

The original Metroid takes place long after the series is over right? A deranged Samus running around the mental hospital in her underwear shooting her cardboard gun at the orderlies?

No, it's one of the SA-X being tested in a make-shift replica of Zebes by The Federation.

It's actually Metroid Dread.

It doesn't match the rumors much, then.

Well, the rumors don't match the elevators.
