Arrow Metroid on Wii U is likely

Nintendo of Japan's Katsuya Eguchi was more than willing to suggest that a Metroid title was a given on the Wii U system, as noted in this kotaku story. Perhaps it was all speculation, but it's good to know that the series is still held in good regard after the poor reception of Other M.

I tend to think the games industry follows a self-affirming sense of logic when it comes to things like games reception. I can look back at the lower sales of Super Mario World 2 and draw parallels to how it was simply not a traditional SMB style title, for instance, rather than assume that the 2D genre was dying at the time. NSMB's gigantic success certainly suggests that, perhaps, 2D games may not have ever truly fallen out of style, simply that the developer's tastes had fallen out of style. The next installment in the Metroid series might be on a slippery slope, much like Star Fox has been, due to Nintendo's willingness to justify its failures in a lack of general public interest.

I will say one thing; the Wii U could solve the 2D-3D Metroid feature gap. A first person screen for scanning could stream to the controller, while a profile/sidescroller screen is up on the main display.

Thoughts?

I'd love a new Metroid game in a more classic Metroid style. The Wii U seems like just the platform for it.

Yeah, a sort of amalgamation of 2D with first-person scanning would be rad.

There are lots of possibilities...like a boss/enemy that disappears from sight, but Samus can see it in her visor, so you have to fight it from first-person view on the controller.

I agree with Bass-treme. Who would even know what stuff you can do with the controller involved?
