Metroid II DX?

Someone recently unearthed some screens from a potential GBC colorized version of Metroid II, in photos from the official German Nintendo magizine, Club Nintendo. The location in the screen doesn't exist in the original Metroid II, so it's actually a bit farfetched for it to be a simple recolor. Do you think it was real, or a compelling mockup?

The magazine page itself is clearly a mockup, but the screen may have come from an abandoned project. MDB, where the screens are from, seems to lean towards "mockup" based on their own speculation, but we're all pretty familiar with how tight-lipped Nintendo has been these years. If there were a project underway to colorize Metroid II, and even expand it, we may never hear an official word on the matter.

All I know is that looks pretty sweet. I'd love a proper Zero Mission remake of Metroid II, and so would a lot of other people. Thoughts?

I thought I heard about how Metroid II was supposed to become a DX game alongside Zelda, along with Mega Man V.

Game play wise, I've been too spoiled by Fusion/Zero Mission to get too much into II (Maybe if it gets on VC I can get a semi-proper feel for it), but it's certainly an important game to the series.

I gotta say, despite owning Metroid II, I have never gotten very far...at all. I'd like to play it. I'd ask for an actual in-game map, but I feel like that'd take away from a lot of what makes Metroid II a cult hit.

Well, here's a full map: http://kayin.pyoko.org/wp-content/up...d_ii_world.gif

If you want to have a fun playthrough, just consult it whenever you're frustrated and lost.

This isn't the first I've heard of a colourised Metroid II, and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo was actually working on it back in the 90's. Also considering that the colourised Link's awakening has an extra dungeon, it makes sense that there would be additional content.

I always found this game annoying to find my way around in, as all of the environments looked the same, perhaps moreso than in the original Metroid, if only because that one had colour. It does seem like a good candidate for a zero mission treatment.

Interesting. It would be great if they remade Metroid II and also Super Metroid.

Prediction: Some fan will completely overhaul Metroid II to have color, as well as the area shown.

Worse than that, Metroid II is the only game in the series where the normal hallways don't line up. Justifies using a map, IMO, because there are a lot of places where it makes no sense and becomes very confusing.

Either it's real or German magazine people are cruel mock-up artists. A new version of Metroid II would be nice, though, along with Mega Man V and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. I thought that someone had been working on a new version of Metroid II and put trailers up on the internet.

True. Also, I'd like to point out that there aren't any elevators, just sayin.

Well clearly that means this Metroid II DX isn't a remake, but actually a SEQUEL
