I've not played the first ,I've only heard that it's decent.

Gears is one of the reasons I want a 360. I prefer it to Halo.

Gears is fun with lights out. My friend bought it and we played campaign which was quite addicting. I wish I was able to finish the game just me and him, but now that he beat the game and I didn't it takes the element of surprise out of co-op since he knows what's gonna happen now.

Anyway, I don't know about online play but single player / co-op is great.

Gears and Halo are two of the greatest games on the 360. Campaign was amazing, and the multiplayer is stupidly addicting. Gears 2 will be even better. =D

From what I saw it was more strategic than Halo, though it still has that adrenaline rush of the Halo series.
