New XBox Experience

I got the firmware update this morning.

Creating an avatar was neat (and I can't wait for more games that will use them), but all and all the update was just really a change to the GUI and nothing super-spectacular.

Um

Was it possible before to store 360 games on the 360 itself? Dunno, never saw it before.

^ Yes you can, but from I've heard, it's pretty meaningless (the system still needs to check the disc, and apparently the claims of shorter load times have been exaggerated some)

It takes pressure off the disc drive. IE: won't read as much on read-heavy games, making it less likely your DVD-drive will break.

My system is from Fall 06 and has gone through more than heavy use. Never had a RRoD, but the dvd drive is slowly dying. Many of the early ones went bad prematurely, but most people RR'd before getting the DVD issues (this is why you get "Disc is dirty or damaged" errors with games that are neither).

Its a little cleaner to navigate than the blades. It feels "better," albeit a little slow on the initial bootup.

Would have been nice to have the Xii--err--avatar games like 1v100 up at launch. Would like to see a little more integration with them. I like the look better than Miis tbh, though I would like to get more clothes (granted, I was wearing exactly what my Avatar is wearing when I made it).

Haven't installed anything because I don't have a large enough HDD. I think that was ultimately the end goal: to push early adopters to upgrade to the larger (still overpriced) HDDs to utilize the content.

^ Right now, I only really use the Marketplace to download game demos that I usually delete right after playing, so don't really need more than the space I have.

It's okay. Takes a little longer to navigate, but meh.
