How much does X-BOX Live cost?

Because I'll only get an X-BOX 360 if I have X-BOX Live.

As Wiki said, $50. Sometimes Best Buy or someplace else has a deal for $30.

An XBL Silver account is a free perk of the console--with it, you'll be able to download demos, trailers, even full games. If you want to play against people online, you need an XBL Gold membership, which costs 7.99 USD per month, 19.99 for three, or 49.99 for a solid year.

The kits Panfan mentioned include a three-month Gold Membership card, a 360 headset, and a game card (mine came with 'Joust'--awesome).

And, of course, if you plan on connecting your 360 to a wireless network, you'll need to buy an adaptor (unlike the Wii and PS3, there's no internal wi-fi)--those are usually around a hundred bucks.

For some reason, it can connect to my laptop wirelessly. Somewhat.

Amazon has a 12 month card (+ 1 month bonus, so 13 months) for 38.xx
Amazon.com: Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Gold Card plus 1 Month Bonus: Video Games

No headset though.

Wireless is a nice bonus to have, but its really expensive for what it is (79.xx at Amazon). If you're tech savvy (doubt it), you can actually hack an old router to act as a wireless adapter for the 360 using some open-source firmware. Google it up, I know lifehacker.com has run a story on it, as have numerous other tech/gaming blogs. If you don't know what you're doing, buy the official one.

If you don't know about it, def. check out cheapassgamer.com. Place is great for finding otherwise hidden deals (plus getting weekly ads in advance).

Most PS3s have built-in Wi-Fi. I believe the only one that doesn't is the old 20GB first-run model.

$79???

Yeah, buy an old WAP, plug it in, set the WAP to act as a bridge to another WAP/Router, and presto.

I just got a 3-month gold membership for the summer for about $25 (Canadian).

Still unknown how much online playing I'll actually do (though I had fun with Guitar Hero today)
