Earthworm Jim Coming to WiiWare, PSN and XBLA

Earthworm Jim Coming to WiiWare, PSN and XBLA

Quote:
Looks like Earthworm Jim is indeed returning to consoles, but it won't be via Sega. Instead, Gameloft and Interplay have announced an all-new Earthworm Jim title for WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

"We are delighted to partner with Interplay to bring Earthworm Jim to multiple downloadable platforms," said Gameloft senior vice president Gonzague de Vallois.

"The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today's gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible. We look forward to delivering a fantastic game."

Sega is currently conducting a poll to determine their next Xbox Live Arcade title, with one of the options being Earthworm Jim. The 16-bit classic is already available on the Wii's Virtual Console.

The new version will be arriving in the final quarter of 2009, with the Xbox 360 getting a month's worth of exclusivity. It's unclear whether it'll be a Bionic Commando Rearmed-style remake, or if it'll be an all-new title, but we'll let you know when we have more information.
Wicked sweet. This'll be interesting to check out once more is revealed.

Update: Earthworm Jim Downloadable Title is a Remake

Quote:
The recent announcement of a new Earthworm Jim title was pretty vague, and left us guessing what exactly it would be. Signs pointed to a remake, but we weren't ruling out a fully original game either. MTV Multiplayer reports that the game is indeed a remake of the original Sega Genesis title, as confirmed by a Gameloft representative.

Gameloft is working with Interplay to bring Jim back, and the game will be released for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and WiiWare before the end of the year. XBLA will get a month of exclusivity for the title. "The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today's gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible," said Gameloft senior VP Gonzague de Vallois. "We look forward to delivering a fantastic game."
