All those people who died and were hurt by it is still so sad. I was in so much shock when I first heard. Do you remember how you heard about this tragedy and what your first thoughts were? What sort of memorial do you think should be created? |

Seriously, my first reaction was something along the lines of "Whoa.. WHAT the F**K?!" I live about two hours away from where it happened. I turned the TV on as soon as I got home, and they were already showing clips of the first plane striking in slow motion, and all the flames and smoke coming from the explosion. Later that evening I saw the Palestinians cheering, which got me extremely pissed off. [ September 11, 2004, 06:33 PM: Message edited by: O Foul Master of the Abyss ] |

| That reminds me, today is my friend's birthday. Jeez, I wouldn't want to wake up on my birthday to see two of the country's most important towers go kaboom. I was shocked for a few moments, and then thoughts raced through my head. (Who? How? Why? What exactly is going on?) The memorial? Carve all victim's names on a giant block and tote that block all the way next to or around what is now the World Trade Pit. ![]() Origin of Entria | |

My younger brother was already awake, and he was watching MTV, but they weren't airing any videos, but the images of the tragedy. I was like "Huh?". I remember the entire school (including myself, to some extent) going wacko about it and saying they wanted to convert to Islam and that Bin Laden hath cometh hereth to saveth all of us. Of course, you all know I don't live in the US. |

I sat down at the table with my friends (our homeroom had actual tables instead of desks first semester of the year) and I was like "What, are we watching a movie or something?". Everyone told me to shut up, and thus I saw what was going on. Through the day, we watched the TV instead of doing work in most classes. However, over at the high school (my brother was a freshman at the time), the TVs were all off and none of the students were told by any of the teachers what was going on. (Back in 7th grade) No one even spoke. Then it continued on into the day where every class period begun with watching the news. |

| Super Bodyguard & King of the Arcade | I was at school (8th grade at the time) and all of the teachers had found out before us, and chose not to tell any of the kids what REALLY happened so we wouldn't get scared or something. It felt odd because kids started leaving school one by one and we had no idea what was going on. Sensing something was fishy, I went up to one of the teachers and asked what was going on. They said "Oh it's nothing, they're just spraying for incefilitis so thats why we're not letting you go outside." Which was a lie, obviously. Then I get into my dad's car at the end of the day, and he tells me what really happened. As soon as I get home I saw the images on TV...it felt scary and strange, not just because of how many people died but because I live about 30-40 minutes away and there could've been people I knew in there. |

It shocked me. I went numb with fear for that moment. I had moved into my apartment on campus with my three friends earlier that week, and school was starting the next day on 9/12. I had been up for maybe 10 minutes when my friend came on IM and asked me to turn on the news. I looked, and words couldn't describe how I felt. Not only that, I was honestly fearful for a few moments because I live within five miles of a military installation, and I honestly didn't know what to think. 3/11, however, was much more personal. The bombing of Madrid's subways was actually quite frightening. I had a very good friend who used to live in Madrid before she came to live in the US. (She worked for Nintendo of Europe.) When she had come online, she told me that she took that very subway to work when she had lived in Spain, and even more, she very easily could have been on that train. Her friends usually took that train as well. (Thankfully, they had woken up late that morning.) To know that if the world had been just SLIGHTLY different that I could have lost one of my best friends... or her her best friends... that's humbling. It makes you think quite a bit about life and where you're going in it. 9/11 was an attack against my country. 3/11 was an attack against me. One day, I pray that we will be able to live our lives free from the fear from the shadow of terror that some people wish to inflict upon the world. ![]() "There are some who call me... At first I laughed and thought it was just some moron that was dumb enough to accidentally fly their plane into such large buildings, but as soon as I got into my second period class (Radio and TV...our school has a radio station, but that's a story for another day) where it was on the TV. After hearing what really happened, I wasn't sad. I was pissed. Someone dared to try and take on my country? My country?! The rest of the day, I was just seething with anger, and I watched the news for about a year afterwards. |

We all really just sat in awe, and dissapointment about that, some kids crying and all, and it was REALLY scary. |

Gender: Posts: 8,286 Thanks: 84 Thanked 37 Times in 30 Posts | I'm sure some of our parents can remember what they were doing on December 4th, 1963. The date that President John F Kennedy was shot. And I'm sure we'll all remember exactly what we were doing on September 11th, 2001. I remember it well. I had come home from school and I was watching TV. My friend called and told me that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. At first I thought it was a horrific accident. But I got off the phone and Mum told me something catastrophic had happened. I turned onto the news channel and saw it. I was shocked. My initial thoughts about it were wrong, it was a terrorist attack. |

Anyway, I was annoyed by it, because I was rudely awakened to be told that something happened in NY. It didn't really effect me, and I only know one person living in NY, so it was sort of just a free holiday. It's very hard for me to feel the pain of people that otherwise never would have existed to me. ![]() | |

I was going home and this guy from my grade who was on the bus told me that the twin towers had been bombed. I didn't really think much of it, since I just heard that it had been "bombed," and I didn't think there would be as much damage as there was. When I got home I saw it on the news, and it seemed surreal. When you see an attack like that, you just think, "what movie is this from?" As in TML's case, 3/11 was much more personal to me. My brother lives in Madrid and was just outside of that train station when the bomb went off and saw people running out with blood on their faces. Thankfully, my brother was alright... ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote of the week: "Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. We've got tragedies occurring every week. Stupid Colombia. What's worse, some people still think the guerrillas are struggling to establish democracy. People are unaware that all they want is money, and they can get all the money they want that way. The revolutionary spirit got lost a good while ago. |

Here and there I heard things of the twin towers falling or blowing up or something. The teachers didn't come out and tell us or anything so I never really knew. It was only during 9th period gym class that I actually found out what had happened. The PE teachers explained what was going on, what we couldn't do cause of the attacks right now, and all that stuff. I was shocked. I was even more shocked when I went home and turned on the news. --------------------------------- ~Gamer Chris ![]() |

She told us vague details, like "There has been a plain flying into a building in New York City." Of course this was just to butter up the little kids, and we couldn't blame her, they would have cried insanely if they knew about everything else. That's when everyone went to the idea of "Oh, it was just an accident. I hope everyone's okay." Afterward the 6-8 grade teacher called 3+ into his room and told us about the terrorists, the WTC, Osama and that stuff. My initial thoughts were "...Wow." ![]() |

The teacher next door came in and said to turn on the news. The first plane had already hit, and we were all like "Man, that stinks!", and then the second hit and all of a sudden everybody caught on. "HOLY BLEEP, THEY DID THAT ON PURPOSE!!!" And we still had to finish the test while this was all going on. I really just lost it when they started talking about the people jumping out of the buildings, 'cause I'm afraid of heights to begin with, plus the descriptions of the impacts set off my psychosomatic pain response, so I pretty much became a vegetable for 10 or 20 minutes. Luckily, I'd already handed the test in by then. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |

Suddenly I just felt this whole murmur of conversation go through the hallways among teachers/students and the hairs on my neck immediately stood on end. However, my teacher wouldn't allow the T.V. to be turned on, so we were left in the dark until the principal came in and manually did it in time for us to see the second plane hit. First I thought something along the lines of "whoa, what, noooo this is just some prank", then I fully understood the level of horror this was on and I was just left aghast. I felt weird the rest of the day though, because I doodle all the time, but when I looked down at the paper in front of me I realized I had drawn a fanciful space fighter facing in the direction of some equally fictional tower. |
