| Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2001 Location: Canada Gender: Posts: 7,888 Thanks: 0 Thanked 7 Times in 7 Posts | To those who think saying something "smart" like "Good riddance" or "**** off and die" in this topic, I suggest you hold your opinion of me and choose not to post as I will only agree to disagree with you. I don't aim to have this deleted due to a flame war. Anyways... On April 20th of 2001 I joined VGF by way of NintendoLand. At first I dwelled only under the then-active Nintendoland battlefield where I reconfirmed my zest for writing and met some of the finest writers of my age group that I may ever hope to meet. Later I broadened my horizons out into the rest of VGF where I befriended some and even made some psuedo-rivals. I've been here for the lion's share of four years but today is where it ends. Now so as not to latch on to the going-trend of cussing out everyone and everything here like the past few deprtees have covered very intricately, I will say only that the people I have distaste for know well who they are and that today I want to be remebered for the contemptable shrew I spent my final months here as. Tonight I want to go with class. Had I left a few months ago, I probably would have been more well-off. I would have burned a significantly smaller amount of bridges between those who no longer care for me to be here, and may have been remembered for someone who enjoyed a good time rather than one who was cruel and untruthful to those who are now ex-comrades. But this is not a time for me to be nostalgic of what once was, it is a time where I repent somewhat. I stand by what I say 100% of the time and what I feel in my heart is not something I will ever apologise for. Our thoughts and opinions are all we have to truly call our own, and are not something we should feel remorse for. But today I feel remorse for a different reason. For not being up-front with some people that were once my friends but now have seen the ugly truth of my ways. To those people, you all know who you are, I am sorry I was not more clear on my thoughts with you. While all you may have heard is correct, I should have said it to you all personally and you deserve to here it up-front instead of through the grapevine. I may not have your good thoughts any more, but as you know well by now I wish I had your respect. Tonight I speak to you not under the guise of Phenom, but as who I am truly. I'm Paul Murphy and for the first time in eight years I'm pretty happy with who I am as a person. Today I can look in the mirror and say nothing but good things about the person looking back. I want to leave here with a clean slate and in a utopian way I hoped that in apologizing for not being up-front with the few unspecified people; the bridges I thought I burned could be mended even slightly. Even though my heart sinks that the place I spent a mostly happy time with a few good men and women, and that I shed the proverbial single tear from within, I'm as happy as I have been for a long time. And I thank you. If you have anything that needs to be said to me other than the perennial "Happy Trails, So Long" post, I will check my PM's tomorrow. Shakespeare probably said it best "This above all else, to thine ownself be true". That english bastard was alright... Remeber me as the guy who liked to laugh. Don't hurt yourself out there in the real world. So goodbye, Phenom, Big Bear, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and apparently, Paul Murphy. Whoever you are. |

With all these people going, I may consider leaving myself. Good bye Phenom, you know I always did respect all of you guys, I'm not sure if I was one of those "short-bridged" people, all I know is you seemed to treat me better as a person after I left the Nameless. I'm glad you were always true, and as you've said, there's no better way of acting han being yourself. Maybe someday we may unexpectedly run into each other and not know it. Very few people wrote with as much creativity and honor as you did. More than just a friend, you were a great person who I could always count on to give any warrior in the gunjin a run for their money. Take Care and God Speed.
