Aww, ya miss me.

I eliminate some wishes, and I take the others... and now, of the ones that remain, the randomly chosen ones are...

TML's wish and Parakarry's wish.

TML - 420
Luigi007 - 321
Prince Toad - 274 (+14)
Sarcasm - 251 (+11)
Parakarry - 227
Chunky - 212
Knux - 202
Fireyoshi - 133
That Guy - 102
Vin - 100
Link2000 - 58
SML - 45
SM1987 - 31

Items:
Luigi007 - Candy
Parakarry - Boo
Prince Toad - Silver Coin

Break
You got a little bit to shop.

Bowser Whistle (makes next event a Bowser challenge): 10 points
Boo (steals points from an opponent but less if they post to shake it off): 22 points
Safe (makes point losses less extreme): 26 points
Revolutionizer (takes your score and an opponent's and redistributes points semi-randomly): 60 points
Letter Wand (user chooses a Magical Letter, and that letter will make all opponents by user's choice either lose or gain a point each time they use it): 17 points
Stun Gun (chosen opponent cannot take next small challenge but also will not lose any points): 32 points

And don't think you can either abuse or cheat with the Letter Wand, because at maximum the user can only gain 10 points with it.

Small task (maximum of 18 points)
Many things happened in the past concerning balances of power in countries and the desire to conquer land. Could world domination have been possible, though? Would one power really be able to hold control on the entire world? Even though it seems like it can't happen now, could it still be possible in the present if certain things happen?

The evaluations will be curved so that somebody will earn the max score of 18, and then the others will get points out of comparing their response to the 18-point one.

Bonus (6 points): Participate, but do not use an item.
Bonus (Revolutionizer): Post twice in a row with a difference of at least 6 hours between the two posts. (first applied player only)

Well...

Let's say that King George the...3rd, was it? I was never good in history.Anyway, he never was quite so arsh with the English colonies. The English colonies would, therefore, never rebel. And we wouldn't have America.

Therefore, the Lousiana Purchase would not have been made. Now let's say Napoleon got angry with the English for some reason, and moved in to conquer the
however many English colonies.

Napoleon would eventually sweep in with a larger force, and decimate the enitre world.

But soon, he would die, and before his successor could come into power, we'd revolt, creating Pangea, an ultra-unified country(not by land, but by brotherhood) once more.

But then someone would get power hungry, and would destroy the new constitution, and would rule the world. Cycle loops.Eventually, we'd split back into individual continents.

By now, the time of World War 2 has come. Hitler starts his invasion by building up peace treatys with nearby England and France, along with Russia and Japan. Once he got enough small world countries under his belt, he'd turn on his allies(or should I say axis?)and through his uber-brainwashing skillz(you saw what he did to all non-Jewish German's minds!)would keep hold of the world for a while.

Eventually, though, he'd die of old age. Then, because we are brainwashed, we celebrate grandly with the new leader of the world.

So, everything could've easily gone awry if King [insert name] hadn't gone so harsh on the American colonies.

Kinda freaky, huh?

I do not believe world domination is possible at any point in time, whether past or future. My belief primarily points to all of the civil wars that have taken place throughout the world over the history of the ages. Even if one could conquer the entire world and make all the nations one nation, that nation must be KEPT one nation; this requires the absence of revolution throughout the entire world. I honestly do not believe that watch can be kept over all people at all points in time because eventually secret committees focused on revolution will be created, seeking to destroy the continuity of the empire. These localised rebellions may eventually be successful, and even if their rebellion is countered, rebellion will continue to spread, at first small, spreading only because it has one time been done, and then followed by an eventual uprising under a common banner. A country, even without external rival, will always have internal rivals.

Therefore, even if it is possible, it would be impossible to sustain such a world empire, thus making the very question of its potential existence a moot point.

Depends on what time period you're talking about, and what you want to consider the "world." For example, Alexander basically conquered the entire Greek world. So yes, it was, for a long time, possible to conquer the whole world; the scale would just shift. However, you can look at what happened to Alexander's empire when he died if you want to see what'd happen after the leader went down. It immediately split off into, what, the Seleucid, Ptolemaic... and I think two other empires. They couldn't really agree, and then the Romans came along, and they took over a lot. However, it got harder as time passed. The Romans didn't even conquer their whole world; there was Parthia, some of Germany, some of the Middle East, Aksum and its trading partners, etc. By then the playing field had started to level. The Greeks under Alexander could beat the piss out of anyone, but people could fight the Romans, and win on occasion. Even had they taken over the world, people would have rebelled, so they couldn't sustain it.

Jump ahead about a millenium to the Mongols. They took over Asia, which is quite a feat, simply because it's so huge. Europe would have been annihilated if not for Ogadai's death and the subsequent recall of the Mongol hordes. They could have conquered the world; however, it turned out that even though they divided the land up into khanates, and there wasn't much infighting, they couldn't rule even one continent successfully. They stayed in China for a little, and Russia for a long time, but the rest of it went down pretty fast.

Napoleon, well, he couldn't even get Russia, and he was defeated at Waterloo... even though he was a military genius, he couldn't quite take all of Europe. He doesn't figure in as much.

Hitler and the Axis would have gone down eventually, even had Britain fallen. Perhaps they would have conquered much of the world, maybe even all of it, but they would not have been able to rule it, even with the new propaganda techniques to control the populace-- by then nationalism had taken root to an extent that such a multicultural empire wasn't really feasible.

He was the last man who even could have even conquered the world at all, though. Since the dawn of the nuclear age, any serious threat would be nuked to hell, and then if they retaliated (as a serious threat likely would), well... it would probably destroy most of the Earth.

To sum up: before Europe asserted dominance over the world, one nation conquering the world was possible. After imperialism and nationalism took root, it became much more difficult, but was still vaguely doable. After the detonation of the first atomic bomb and especially the buildup during the Cold War, it became impossible to even conquer the world. At no time, however, was it ever possible to maintain a global empire, on any scale, for any substantial period of time. The only thing that could even do that was a militarily and personally brilliant, powerful, and influential leader (Alexander and Genghis Khan come to mind), but eventually a poor heir would be chosen, an assassin would take out the leader, or something similar would happen and it would all go to hell. Therefore, a worldwide empire becomes impossible.

...wow, I just noticed how similar my and TML's last sentences are. Heh.
