Maybe he has been infected with the same disease I have. The sporadic poster disease. Makes you prone to coming back and forth, for all eternity, never really committing to leaving or staying. Although his huge postcount effectively makes him immune to it; people with the disease are elite in their membership but preciously low on posts... unless I somehow found a way to post more often.
