In Spanish, the Pope is actually a vegetable. Spanish for Pope (Papa) is the same as Spanish for potato (papa).
A priest would then be the potato's... eh.. what do you call them.

Technically, this is incorrect. Papa is potato, but Papá translates to "father", and in the Catholic church, priests, bishops and the Pope are called "father". The accented a (á) makes the two words different. Just informing you.

No. "(el) Papa" is not "(el) papá". The stress in "(el) papa" is the same as in "(la) papa".

But the pun is still used in several common jokes, especially when the article is omitted. As an example:

Bah, antes ya me había pasado lo mismo; recuerdo que Andre (¿era Andre?) ponía "Un mil" en su post número mil, y yo fracasé unas tres veces intentando explicarle que estaba utilizando mal el término. Es tan difícil darse a entender en un lenguaje que no se domina.
