Deathmatch Summary: Mario and Link vs. Bowser and Ganon

Many years ago, there was a stadium. A place where Nintendo characters battled for glory. There were many battles, Mario vs. Luigi, Mario vs. Sonic and Samus vs. Mega Man to name a few. The stadium was sadly closed down, but now thanks to the commission of the new Nintendoland leader Metal Mario has allowed the stadium to be brought back as it will once again live it’s days in glory.

Inside the stadium, the stands have once again been filled. And Mario and Luigi are returning to their old hosting booth. The crowd cheers loudly. They go through their old green and red doors and take their seats.

Luigi: Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready for the return of the Nintendoland Deathmatches!?

The crowd cheers loudly.

Mario: We have a great match for you today to mark the return of this stadium the two biggest heroes of Nintendo and the two biggest bastards of the Nintendo. I must say Luigi; it is a pleasure to be back in this stadium.

Luigi: Quite so, Mario. As you will be fighting in the very first match along with our good friend Link the First.

Mario: Eh? Link the First?

Luigi: Mario, how many times have I told you? Link the First is the very first of his bloodline, the first to battle Ganon who was still called Ganondorf.

Mario: …. What?

Luigi: (Sighs) He’s the Link from the Nintendo 64 games!

Mario: Oh, right!

Luigi: This has got to be the longest déjà vu ever. Now get down there and I’ll announce you.

Mario: Okay, Luigi. I’m going.

Luigi: Before I announce the contestants, I must announce we were planning on bringing Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Zelda the First of Hyrule here as guests.

Mario: Eh, Zelda the First?

Luigi: Shut up, Mario. But apparently Zelda and Peach are nowhere to be found.

Mario: Yeah, where are they?

Luigi: But whatever. The player you see down in the ring is the man who started it all. The red plumber. He has a variety of power-ups. The man: Mario!

The crowd cheers loudly as Mario waves to the crowd.

Luigi: Next is his teammate. He has a variety of weapons at his disposal, and he most likely intends to implore them tonight. Please welcome: Link!

The crowd cheers loudly as Link arrives, he walks proud in his Kokiri Tunic and his polished Kokiri boots. He steps into the ring besides Mario.

Luigi: Now we announce the villains, the first one is the one who Mario and I have been fighting since the ‘80s. The King of Koopas: Bowser.

The crowd boos as Bowser walks into the arena. He walks slowly, but determined, and takes the opposite side of Mario and Link.

Mario: Just like him.

Link: Don’t worry about him.

Bowser: Bwa ha ha ha! A shame! Although Ganon and I have almost nothing in common. (Except kidnapping princesses.) I do know that with our combined strength we’ll defeat the two of you; you barely beat each of us as an individual.

Mario: When I look back to how easily I beat you in Super Mario Sunshine. I think you’re losing your touch.

Bowser: That was only because I was stuck in a bathtub.

Luigi: And the second part of the villain team: He is known as the King of Evil: Link’s Bowser: Ganon!

Out through a vortex and through the crowds boos. Ganon in his human form of Ganondorf Dragmire comes walking with a smile on his face.

Ganon: We meet again, kid. Thou had been lucky last time, but that shall not be the case this time.

Link: Shove it, pigface.

Ganon: Oh sure, but Bowser and I propose a wager.
Link: Hmm?

Mario: This can’t be good.

Bowser points the sky.

Bowser: Look above you.

Mario and Link look above they saw two women hanging above. Their feet and thighs are tied. Their hands are tied behind their backs. Their bodies have also been tied together and they are gagged. They are none other than the princesses: Peach and Zelda.

Zelda and Peach: Mmmmppphhh!

Link: Don’t you two do anything else?

Mario: Let them go. You know that we’ll save them (again) anyway.

Ganon: If you win we will set them free, but if we win they will remain our captives and we will conquer the lands you have tried to vain to protect for so long.

Link: (To Mario) We don’t have a choice. (To Ganon) You’re on. (To Luigi) Alright, Luigi begin the match.

Ganon: Excellent.

Luigi: My, oh my. It looks like this battle will be another battle for the world. Anyway, time for our first match to begin. It’s been a long time, but Game Start!

Mario makes the first move as he heads towards Bowser charging with his fist outstretched. Bowser makes no move to counter, but lets loose a stream of fire breath.

Mario: (in thought) Just what I expected.

Mario with his incredible jumping ability leaps out of the way and prepares to pounce on Bowser.

Bowser: (in thought) Just what I expected.

Bowser this time does make a move to counter Mario’s attack. And when Mario lands, Bowser prepares to slash him. Mario ducks dodging Bowser’s attack and then somersaults out of the way. Meanwhile Link and Ganon are staring into each other’s eyes. Link draws his Master Sword and Mirror Shield. Ganon draws his own sword. They charged, and the swords clashed against each other. Link prepares to slash Ganon across the chest. Ganon jumps into the air and is almost flying. Ganon then prepares to use his sword to cut Link in half. Ganon came flying down. Link avoided the attack by doing a backwards flip.

Luigi: The match has just begun and it’s already off to a blazing start. We indeed have a lot to look forward to in upcoming matches.

Meanwhile above the tied and gagged Peach and Zelda watched Mario and Link’s progress.

Mario: (in thought) That attack should have worked; I didn’t expect him to be that prepared. (Out loud) Ok, Bowser time to take it up a notch.

Bowser: Give me your best shot, fatso.

Meanwhile Link and Ganon are also staring each other down.

Link: Ok, Ganon. You ready to feel the power of the Sword of Evil’s Bane once again?

Ganon: That Master Sword of yours may have worked for you in Ocarina of Time, but it won’t work now.

Link: Well, at least you put up a better fight than Majora’s Mask did. That’s all I have to say about it.

Ganon: Are you comparing Majora’s Mask and I?

Link: Not really. Time to get to back to action.

Ganon makes the first move and in his hand, he creates a small energy ball and sends it at Link’s way. Link uses his Master Sword to cut it in half.

Link: You’d have to do a lot better than that.

Ganon: I intend to.

Link: Like you did last time?

Ganon: (growls) How dare you mock my skills!

Meanwhile Bowser has sent a barrage of fireballs at Mario’s way. Mario jumps out of the way. He passes the tied up and gagged Peach and Zelda and kicks himself off the wall and when Bowser turns around, Mario delivers the first blow of the match sending Bowser flying against the wall.

Luigi: Quite good, Mario! Give him another.

Mario: And to think, Luigi, it only took one punch to send him flying. Shows how simple he has gotten over the years. (Turns to the girls) Wouldn’t you say?

Zelda and Peach: (nodding) Mmmmppphh.

Bowser gets up growling and charges towards Mario in blind anger. Mario jumps out of the way. Meanwhile Link and Ganon’s swords are clashing again. Link however takes a different approach this time and kicks Ganon in the face. Ganon goes flying back causing him to drop his sword.

Luigi: It looks like Mario and Link have the advantage.

Link: Don’t worry, Luigi, we have plenty more where that came from.

Ganon: Time to unearth some power, here it comes boy!

Ganon takes out a trident. He spins it around like a boomerang and prepares to send it Link’s way. Meanwhile Bowser has unleashed another fiery attack against Mario.

Mario: Again with this? You get more simpler each time.

Mario jumps out of the way, but that’s the move Bowser wanted. Bowser leapt into the air. Mario was unguarded. Bowser then took this opportunity to hit Mario with his tail. Mario was sent flying against the wall.

Bowser: Maybe it’s you who gets easier.

Ganon meanwhile has finally sent the trident Link’s way. Link dodged it, but Ganon was waiting. Ganon then unleashed a powerful blast through his hand that sent Link flying against the wall.

Ganon: Ha! Get up, Link. I’m far from done with you.

Luigi: Come on guys, we’re counting on you.

Link: Don’t worry; this battle is far from over.

Link gets up and takes out his bow.

Link: You know that I’m also a skilled archer, not just a master swordsman.

Ganon: I remember.

Link brandishes an arrow with a yellow tip.

Link: (in thought) Yes! The Light Arrow and the Master Sword will guarantee me a quick victory.

Link takes aim and fires. But Ganon doesn’t seem worried; he stands and bats it away.

Link: But how?

Ganon: Thou should have known that you need to stun me before you fire one of those arrows at me.

Luigi: Oh no! It appears Link is in hot water now!

Meanwhile Mario has gotten up.

Mario: I think it’s about time I used one of my power-ups.

Mario brandishes a red hat with wings.

Mario: The Wing Cap will let me fly around; you’ll be a sitting duck, Bowser!

Bowser: I’m not some novice; I know what flight can do for you.

Mario takes flight. Bowser launches a counterattack by taking out some hammers and throwing them at Mario.

Bowser: Ha! You know that fire isn’t my only weapon.

Mario: Ha! When was the last time you used those?

Bowser: Just now.

Meanwhile Ganon has begun to advance on Link, while Link is searching his quiver for another arrow.

Link: (in thought) Come on. I need something.

Link then pulled out an arrow that has a blue tip instead of yellow.

Link: (in thought) Yes! The Ice Arrow. It won’t defeat Ganon, but it will slow him down.

Link takes aim and fires. Ganon once again attempts to bat it out of the way, but instead it freezes him solid.

Link: Yes! You couldn’t block it; it would have frozen you anyway.

But much to Link’s surprise, Ganon immediately breaks out.
Link: What? How?

Ganon: Those things don’t hold me for very long and you’re supposed to be the “Hero of Time”.

Link took out his Master Sword and Mirror Shield once again.

Ganon: What are you doing?

Link: Sometimes you just have to attack head-on.

Indeed that appears to be what Link is doing, he charges with his sword outstretched. Ganon immediately prepares an attack.

Ganon: Foolish boy!

Ganon slams his fist into the ground and the ground begins to shake violently. It even distracted Bowser a minute from his attacks on Mario. Link however jumped into the air to avoid the attack.

Link: Hey Ganon! Heads up!

Link brandishes a bomb and throws it. Ganon is caught off guard and is blown backwards by the explosion.

Ganon: Ah! I’ll make you pay for making a mockery of me!

Meanwhile Bowser has returned to throwing hammers at Mario. But suddenly Bowser felt something from the back of his head. Mario had struck him from behind.

Bowser: Cheap….. trick

Luigi meanwhile has sighed with relief on Mario and Link’s recovery.

Luigi: Mario and Link have gained their advantages back! This looks good.

Bowser meanwhile has recovered and as leapt into the air.

Mario: You think you can jump as high as I can fly? You’re even stupider than I thought.

But Bowser sends a hammer Mario’s way causing Mario to have to fly under Bowser, which unfortunately was what Bowser wanted. Bowser then did a ground pound.

Luigi: Mario! Get out of the way!

But, it’s too late as Bowser comes crushing down on Mario’s back.
Meanwhile, Ganon has begun to get furious.

Ganon: This kid is beginning to be a nuisance. Wait a minute. Get ready kid, you won’t survive these next attacks.

Link: OK, Ganon. Show me what you got.

Ganon charges headfirst into battle. Link jumps into the air, but Ganon also leaps into the air. Ganon then takes advantage of Link’s surprise. He punches him to the ground. Link however used his foot to knock Ganon back. But when they both landed, Link suddenly felt a horrible pain in his stomach. Ganon had hit him with his Warlock Punch.

Ganon: If I had used it at full power, you would have gone flying.

Link had the wind knocked out of him, he could barely breath.

Ganon: You want some more?

Ganon then uses his Gerudo Dragon to send Link flying through the air. Then Ganon leaps into the air and uses his Dark Dive attack on Link. Then to make the finishing move, he attacks with his Wizard’s Foot.

Ganon: You put up a good fight, kid. But it’s time to end this.

Much to the audience’s shock, Ganon is preparing a deadly blast that will quite possible kill Link. Zelda is shocked and she tries to get free from her binds. Meanwhile Peach is also trying to get free when she sees Bowser torturing Mario.

Bowser: It’s no use Mario. Just give up, you’ve lost. My weight is crushing you. And when I’m done with you, Luigi will be next.

Luigi: Come on Mario! Link! Get up!

Sonic: Hey Luigi, as a host aren’t you supposed to be unbiased?

Luigi: Normally yes, Sonic. But I’ll make an exception in this case.

Mario: (Straining) If only I could reach a power-up.

Luigi: Nobody’s supposed to die here! It’s against the rules.

Bowser: You know bad guys never play by the rules.

Ganon, meanwhile chuckles to himself as the blast in his hand gets bigger and bigger. Meanwhile Link, who is barely conscious from Ganon’s last attack, is trying to recover. There was nothing he could do. Then Ganon, prepared to make the killing blow. But Link using his Triforce of Courage communicated with Mario.

Link: Hey, you ready for a double team attack?

Mario: How? They’ve got us pinned down.

Link: I see that Bowser is preparing to finish you by unleashing his deadly fire breath.

Indeed, that was what Bowser was intending to do.

Link: But we’ll use their attacks against them. When Ganon prepares to fire, I’ll grab my Mirror Shield and deflect it at Bowser. You find a way to get his fire breath aimed at Ganon.

Mario: I’ve got to get a Triforce of my own.

Ganon: Prepare to die.

Then Ganon fired. Link grabbed his Mirror Shield at the last second and aimed it at Bowser. Bowser was caught by surprise. He tried now to use his fire breath to stop the attack. But Mario took his free arm and with all of his strength burrowed the elbow into Bowser. Causing Bowser’s attack to miss and head towards Ganon who was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. Both blasts stuck at the same time. They winced in pain and fell to the floor freeing Mario from underneath Bowser and allowing Link to escape. Then Bowser and Ganon got up, in a blind rage.

Ganon: That’s it. I have had enough with this pathetic game! Witness the power of the Triforce of Power!

With that Ganon’s body begins to shake violently. Then out of nowhere Ganondorf appeared no more he was the monster form of Ganon. With his golden swords in each hand even Bowser would seem harmless. Ganon looked down upon Link.

Mario: OK, what did you do the last time you beat him?

Link: Don’t worry, he may look fearsome, but he’s not that tough. You would know, if my memory serves me right, you defeated Ganon in a match.

Mario: Oh, yes I remember.

Link takes out another arrow this time just a regular and fires it. Ganon easily destroys it.

Mario: What did you think that would do?

Link: Merely a diversion. Look behind you Ganon!
Ganon does and then he sees a Bombchu exploding right at the spot of his tail. He screams in pain.

Link: His tail is his weak point.

Mario: How’d you get a Bombchu off?

Link: I secretly launched one while Ganon destroyed the arrow.

Meanwhile Bowser has finally gotten up.

Bowser: Oh mother said there would be days like this.

Mario: And you’ve encountered a lot of them with me and Luigi.

Bowser notices that Ganon has transformed, but seems to ignore it.

Mario: I’ll handle him.

Mario reaches for an item and for the first time, pulls out his most famous item the Fire Flower.

Mario: Let’s see you handle this!

Mario fires a few fireballs. They hit Bowser, but he is unaffected.

Bowser: Ha! And you think my fire attacks are weak.

Bowser stomps his feet into the ground and electricity shoots out of the ground.

Bowser: Here’s an attack, I used on you in Super Mario 64.

Mario: I got around it before; I’ll get around it again!

Mario takes another leap into the air.

Bowser: Ah! If he only did not have that stupid jumping ability, he’d be dough in my hands. Wait a minute!

When Mario lands in front of Bowser, obviously to attempt an attack, Bowser slashes him across the clash.

Bowser: You didn’t see that coming? How pathetic.

Mario is turning green from the attack.

Luigi: Mario, are you getting sick?

Mario: No, Luigi! He’s poisoned me. I can’t jump.

Bowser: A move from Paper Mario.

Bowser then prepares the attack he attempted before. And this time Mario can’t jump out of the way to avoid it. Mario is sent sprawling back. Meanwhile, Ganon attempts to slash Link with his swords. Link avoids the attack and hits Ganon’s tail with the Megaton Hammer.

Ganon: Ah! I know I can put up a better fight than this!

Ganon launches an electric attack from his hands. Link is sent sprawling back.

Ganon: Haha! I’ve got plenty more where that came from.

Link: Really? Well, Mr. King of Evil. If you could have beaten me before why didn’t you in Ocarina of Time?

Ganon: Grrr. Thy shall pay.

Link produces an arrow with a red tip. The Fire Arrow, he takes aim and fires. The attack dos not harm Ganon and he prepares to slash Link with his sword. Link however pulls out his hookshot. Using it he pulls himself to safety.

Ganon: Hey! Come down here and fight like a Hylian!

Link: Ha! Well, Gerudo. I guess I have to.

Ganon: I’ll have you know the Gerudos are more of a warrior tribe than Hylians.

Link: I guess that means you’re one of the girls.

Ganon: How dare you! I am one of the only men who are born every 100 years into that tribe. You have mocked me for the last time.

Luigi: Well, it looks like folks in a few minutes this match will be over.

Ganon: It will. But the outcome won’t be pretty for Link.

Link: Come and get me pigface.

Ganon: Grrr. That’s IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ganon charges with his swords outstretched.
Link: (in thought) Foolish. He’s attacking wildly now.

Link lets go of his hookshot at the moment Ganon attempts to slash him. Using his Master Sword he strikes Ganon’s tail. Ganon can feel his power slipping; he has no choice he turns back into Ganondorf.

Ganon: I’ll make you pay boy!

Meanwhile, Mario has used a recovery mushroom to get rid of the poison. Bowser doesn’t seem worried as he knows that Mario has been weakened by the poison. Mario reaches once again into his pockets. He pulls out the Metal Cap. He puts it on and instantly becomes Metal Mario.

Mario: OK, you’re no way near as strong as me when I’m Metal Mario.

Bowser does indeed seem worried by Mario’s transformation.

Bowser: One hit and this match could be over for me.

Meanwhile, Ganon realizing he must now go all out prepares an attack. He sends out hundreds of electric attacks from his hand, but they all seem to miss Link as he just stands there. But then Link becomes shocked when he sees that they are surrounding him.

Ganon: No way to jump, no way to avoid. You’re trapped and you’re just waiting for me to deliver the final blow.

Ganon then in his hand prepares to deliver his strongest attack. The Black Hole. Link meanwhile is doing some strange dance. Meanwhile, Mario has launched what is seemingly the last attack. However Bowser stands and out of his mouth shoots blue flame. Ice.

Luigi: What?! I didn’t know he had Ice Breath.

Bowser: I do that blue flame in Super Mario 64 was ice and Luigi’s Mansion.

Luigi: Oh, how could I forget that?

Mario is frozen solid from the attack. He hits the ground. Meanwhile, Ganon has launched his attack.

Bowser: Say goodbye Mario!

Bowser stomps Mario. The ice breaks. It appears as though Mario is gone. Meanwhile the little balls of electricity around Link explode it seems as though he is gone too.

The crowd gasps.
Zelda and Peach: Mmmmppphhhmmm!

Luigi: How did this happen? One minute, it looked as if it was all over for Bowser and Ganon, then the next…

Ganon: We won.

Bowser: Haha! I finally beat Mario.

But then, he looks down shocked. Mario is still there apparently fine.

Mario: My Metal Cap protected me from your attack.

Bowser is too shocked to move. Mario knows that it’s over for Bowser now and with not a minute to spare punches Bowser hard in the stomach. Then as he’s done so many times before grabs his tail and flings Bowser out of the ring. The Metal Cap increased Mario’s strength and Bowser goes flying through the brick wall. And he doesn’t stop until he disappears over the horizon.

Bowser: CURSE YOU, MARIO! I’LL HAVE MY DAY! AND LUIGI WILL PAY TOO ONE DAY. AND THAT LINK.

Meanwhile Ganon although aware of Bowser’s defeat, is too busy cackling to himself, but then he sees Link also survived the attack. Ganon is shocked. Link was surrounded by a blue diamond.

Link: Nayru’s Love. It protected me from your last ditch attack.

Ganon is too shocked to move. Link takes advantage of this and fires another Light Arrow.

Ganon: You fool! You wasted another arrow!

But much to Ganon’s surprise. The Light Arrow has gotten a direct hit on him.

Link: You’ve used up too much power in that attack of yours. You can’t even defend yourself now. Of course, I never really take advantage of a defenseless opponent, but you’re Ganondorf and I have you to show my enemies the same mercy that would have given me.

Link then proceeds to fire 9 more Light Arrows. Ganon is severely weakened from the attack. Link then begins to use the Triforce of Courage to power up his Master Sword, once it is fully charged he lets loose the final blow.

Link: Feel the power of the Triforce of Courage.

Link strikes. Ganon spits out blood from his mouth. He then collapses unconscious. At first the audience is unaware how, but Link then explains.

Link: By firing 10 Light Arrows, Ganon was weakened enough that one fully charged Master Sword blade would finish him off.

Luigi: Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. Mario and Link are the winners!

The crowd cheers. Mario and Link raise their hands up in victory. Later after Zelda and Peach have been untied, Luigi gives Mario and Link their medals.

Link: One question, Zelda. Why couldn’t you use your Triforce of Wisdom to escape from those ropes?

Zelda: Ganon had put some sort of magic spell on those ropes so we couldn’t break free. Don’t worry Link, you won and that’s all that matters. OK, Luigi the fight’s over.

Luigi: Indeed, well we had a hell of a fight for the return of the Nintendoland Deathmatches. We hope you all enjoyed the match. And on behalf of myself, Mario, Peach and Link the First and Zelda the First we wish you a good night. We hope to see you next week where Mario will return as co-host.

Mario: Eh? Link and Zelda the First?

Luigi: Shut up, Mario.

Let me just add this, this was the longest summary I've ever done.

I like the humor in this summary. The line about Bowser being stuck in a bath tub is good.

^How'd you feel about Bowser and Ganon once again kidnapping the princesses? And I hope I didn't make the ending cheap. And you're allowed to write a future summary in the future. Anyone can!

It's no longer just a theory.

^Yeah, it was kind of proven when Miyamoto announced that The Wind Waker takes place 100 years after Ocarina of Time

The story of The Wind Waker says out-and-out that the Link of that game is not the Link from Ocarina of Time.

^Yeah, which I think means A Link To The Past takes place another 100 years after The Wind Waker
