| Guest | Okay, in my business class we are doing a project on international markets. In my group, we have to come up with ideas for products we could export to Japan. I came up w/ the idea of exporting American video game to Japanese gamers. Everybody killed the idea, saying nobody in Japan would be interested in American games. Does anybody agree with this? Man, I need some ideas! [ November 26, 2002, 03:57 PM: Message edited by: gameinsomniac ] |

Easiest answer would probably be a raw material they don't have. |

| Guest | Damn! I'll never admit my group members were right! I guess basically Americans can't make games like the Japanese. Sidepoint: I was thinking of using the idea of exporting old video cassettes like "I Love Lucy" and that type of stuff. |

Marketing American video games is not a terrible idea... Here's the thing though: Everyone will own Japanese consoles. X-Box is the low contender in Japan, and the only reason it can get anywhere is that Microsoft does have clout... unfortunately not enough clout to hit the local boys. Here's the trick for you: Produce North American games for the Japanese consoles. Most people are interested in games from other countries. The only thing though is that this is not likely to make a killing... but North American games will have novelty to them in Japan. As for your tv show idea... Sounds iffy. Nobody would know what "I love Lucy" is, and few would care. Here's my tweek- Introduce a popular North American (cartoon) character. Take the Ninja Turtles for example, they were big in North America. Export them to other countries and they can take a life of their own. That way not only do you have the tv show, you also have merchandise. |
