Interesting note, forget where I read this: the "Santa Claus" tradition is apparently derived from a Solstice celebration in Norway. Basically kids would leave out their boots, filled with carrots and hay and sugar for Odin's horse Sleipnir. Odin, pleased with the offering, would replace the treats with candy and gifts. Where, where did I read that? |
