In a word, it's irony.

It just takes some absract thinking. It could make fun of multiple things whichever way you look at it.
It could make fun of an anti-social nerd. Without completeing the one game of talking to more than a few people on a daily basis.
It could make fun of an RPG with a really hard to find item. A scroll.
It could make fun of whatever you want it to be in this case. A rare demotivator. Most say it sucks. Some say it's flexible.
But uh...heh...who expects a black box with a picture and some words to bend anyway, eh?

Meanwhile, I'll just take this thread to a U-turn.
