My Trip to GDC08 in Pictures - VGF

So for those of you who haven't heard, I was at GDC this past week. (Suck it, y'all!) Anyway, I was down there representing my (still unmentioned) company and learning about random programmy and game designy things. But what they didn't expect was that I was going to bring my camera and use this as a stage to take pictures of the secret world of game developers! Mwahahaha!

Our hotel's lobby. It was actually a REALLY nice hotel -- I was on the 15th floor -- but it was still in a rather bad part of town.

The mall right next to the Expo centre. Apparently there was a game store somewhere in there that I never managed to find. Oh well.

For those that manage to get inside GDC, there's a huge hall dedicated to pimping your résumé to game company and otherwise hobnobbing with all the game industry's finest. Well, at least, people who are accepting résumés and potentially interviewing people. The game industry is hiring like mad at this point, really.

My first lecture of the conference at 9am Wednesday. No one was here other than the Bungie speaker yet since it was probably like 8:20 in the morning.

Two words: ****. Yes.

Yes... you may drool now. Though sadly, it's not like E³'s or PAX's expo hall; most of the people presenting in there are presenting game technologies rather than actual to-be-released games. Sad that.

The PlayStation booth. You might notice the left screen with the bull's eyes; that is the infamous tech demo where the PlayStation Eye tracks your head movement and alters the display with relation to where your head is. Pretty much, the same thing that was done using the Wii Remote for Wii.

Anyone know this guy? It's the "Wii is two GameCubes duct taped together" man! Otherwise known as Chris Hecker.

The Microsoft booth, which non-attendees could totally stalk since this was outside the expo hall. They were featuring their XNA Community Showcase obviously.

The Wii booth. Featured was Wii Fit and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

The building that houses the great Walk of Game. Located right across from the Moscone Centre where we were.

Proof in the pudding, right there.

I had no choice.

And there was Brawl. No, I didn't play it; that's because I already done played it. ^^

Motion capturing technologies were all the rage at GDC.

A neat little demo that actually tries to get you to play REAL guitar.

A 3-D mouse technology

Paid cosplayers that were trying to represent some company or country or something. They were VERY out of place as this was the closest you came to a booth babe.

I'm impressed by the smallest things. This was a microchip that had a display on it advertising... something. I didn't get close enough for fear that I'd have to listen to some boring spiel.

A screenshot from All Points Bulletin, a cops-and-robbers MMO without levelling nor grind and with full customisation of your characters. Yes, that is Shigeru Miyamoto pictured there with 1up boxers. Molyneux is in the back with (unpictured) an "I <3 Fable" button.
