| Senior Member | Gary Gygax, 1938 - 2008 For those of you who don't already know, Ernest Gary Gygax, creator of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, died yesterday of an abdominal aneurysm. Story. I would like to take this time to say that Gary was a hero to me, and that of all my heroes he inspired me to do more than my father ever would have. Rest in peace, Gary. I will see to it that you are remembered for years to come. Don't know if I put this in the right forum. |

Did D&D help to begin the girl gamer thing? I read somewhere in a book ( Slayer's Guide to Girl Gamers, which unfortunately for me came with Slayer's Guide to Rules Lawyers D: ) that D&D ( or AD&D ) was one of the first games that had a truly noticeable amount of female players ( since nobody cares about Monopoly or old ladies playing bridge ).

I owe a great deal of my fantasy geekery to that man (Tolkien and Joe Dever are the other big ones). RIP, duder. __________________ Boo--the only dude bad enough to rescue the president |

Gee, I bet he's rolling in his grave for that joke. But seriously now... and I mean this seriously... he will be critically missed. |

I don't know what's ( theoretically, according to the average person's morals ) worse: that I laughed at those jokes, or that I understood them ( and prefer the edition to which your referring, which a lot of people would find worse than the prior two combined ). It definitely won't be the same without his feedback on newer editions...

| Hello, VGF. I want to play a game... | I may not have gotten around to playing D&D over the course of my life, but I owe this man respect for not only creating a phenomena undeniable in the course of fantasy, but for also influencing so many of the video games I find so sacred today. RIP, sir. |

I was surrounded by nerds and I completely pwned them by making stuff up like taking down a portcullis and turning it into a spear and that pissed off the Nerds and I told them "I have the power to have any power I want!" It was fun. But alas, it's still sad when people die. R.I.P. -CSM |
