| I know... but you know what we said about that in the Mod forum, Andre. I heard all your counter-arguments. I know what it's like to lose threads that are sentimental... it is how it is. You know that Wyborn has kindly volunteered to do his bit and deet all the locked threads based on mega-post counts... and CaptHayfever will be checking any other locked threads and will be doing his bit soon. I am sorry it came to this, but without it, VGF will continue to experience more down-time and that will make none of us happy. We like accessing VGF ALL the time... right? ![]() | |

Too many memories for a lot of VGFers are in those topics, they want to see them. What good is now if you don't know what's been? __________________ Season 1- Coming to a Youtube near you....whenever |

That would be why they're deleting WoTs specifically. Otherwise, there's a number of dead topics in various forums which probably could be deleted without any controversy. As they took as long as they did before deleting any one, I am pretty sure they tried everything else first. I was noticing some severe VGF crashing going on; I would suspect attempting to index or move around old WoTs may have been the problem. For while the vast pile of ancient topics Shane migrated only created a little of it, all of VGF stopped responding some times, and that was just gnarly, as of recently that is. |

That's deleting the memorable topics. Why not delete an assload of topics that hardly anyone cares about rather than delete what's really become a staple and newbie meeting ground? __________________ Season 1- Coming to a Youtube near you....whenever |

The gigantic pile of small topics are easy to manage. Deleting the small ones, if I am correct, would change nothing as long as there's really big ones. I assume they only did this after a large amount of attempts otherwise, as they seem to know the plight you speak of; after all, anything that dense has to have a lot of information in it, even if people try to make it spammy. Think of it this way: Is it easier to move the barrel crammed to maximum capacity (WoTs) or the one with a little bit at the bottom (most topics)? There is the remote chance this is April Fools, but server crashes don't sound like a Shane april fools to me. |

| Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2000 Location: Gender: Posts: 6,679 Thanks: 74 Thanked 186 Times in 126 Posts | That is where my experience thins--I have never had a site as large as VGF, so I don't know if it's overall size or the number of posts in one topic which effects it more. As I don't know who is the SQL controller as of current at VGF, I couldn't quite guess who to ask--or if it is Shane, then he might not mention it outright because the explanation would probably be very technical. Anyway. Hope what I've said explains it a little, though your point remains unanswered due to my inexperience. |

Also, the newbie forum is really glitchy as it gets older, I'm sure that must contribute some. There are threads where every post is multiplied by 8 for some reason, and older than that, starting at page 43, the threads have titles but no poster or message text. Those really should be deleted too. | ||

| Thanks, Mikhail. I have read the WoT threads many times. I even have posted in them on occasion. I am sorry this has affected you. Misc was agreed in the Mod forum to be the first to be pruned due to the high number of locked threads... other forums will be looked at once we work out how this first prune has helped. And thanks for the heads-up regarding the Newbie threads. I shall add them to the list we have!! *gives Mikhail marshmallows* ![]() | |
