Banning tactics gets pretty iffy sometimes--when you ban that, then you have to ban all chainthrows and all shines, then you have to ban pillaring, then you have to ban camping...or at least people will complain about it. It's easier to ban the stages and not have to worry about a big tactics dispute.

The only tactics that were banned in Melee are stall tactics like Peach's Wallbombing and Jigglypuff's rising pound (except for recovery).

Final Destination should be banned from tourneys. It's background distracts me.

This thread is why I like to avoid tournaments at all costs. I hate rules. HATE them, especially when it's on things like video games. I'll just stay at home with my friends and do whatever the hell I like.

Regardless of my opinion, the video was hilarious. xD

i didn't say ban chainthrowing, i said ban chain throwing/shining across the map of the edge on a stage with walk offs. And infinite pinning against walls in stages with walls.

Not that hard.

Go for it.

And TG, my point is that when you ban one tactic, people will want another tactic banned, and another, and another, and it snowballs into no items fox only Final Destination.

Except since these two things are clearly unfair, and most other things are not unfair, tactics that clearly aren't unfair tend to not get banned.

also your telling me that the end result would be exactly the same as things are now

I understand that, but people will still complain about other tactics that they think are unfair, and disputes will come up and it's annoying.

and things right now are not No items Fox only Final Destination, that's just what idiots claim they are.

tourneyfag 15 up, 2 down

Tourneyfags are people who make up (often on the spot) and play by non-official rules for video games. These rules are crated as to best suit their play style and/or play ability at any given time.

A tourneyfag of a profound competitive nature is a person who feels that "fun" ruins any aspect of competition from a given video game, and thus any articles that may provide a random occurrence or event within a video game must be removed (or disregarded where appropriate).

Tourneyfags in every sense of the term are complete opposite of generally accepted and widely regarded "tournament players" of any given sport or event who, play by a predetermined, entirely approved set of rules, which are official, and govern each player competing. Within these rules they do not allow for self governing, a referee and/or judge takes upon that responsibility.

Brian wanted to play a competitive game of super smash brothers, but david the tourneyfag would only agree if the rules he made up on the spot were the ones that would dictate their gameplay. No items, fox only, final destination.

Okay so I watched the video and it was pretty funny regardless of me not getting the joke.

But I'm out of the loop here: what's with the Fox only, no items, final destination thing though? I know Fox is cheap as hell in melee(unfortunately he's my fav character too ) but what about the no-items and FD part?

It's people that don't know a thing about tournaments complaining about tournaments and tournament players. It's mostly satire in this video (or at least that's how I interpreted it).

And no, I'm pretty sure Norfair is staying. It's really good for people like Olimar--lots of platforms, lots of ledges. The thing about walk-off edges is pretty valid though, especially in Melee. check this out:

A Fox could shine you all the way across the stage and off the edge with no trouble at all.
Videos like this just ruin games for me. That there are people out there who try to learn every single glitch and physic in the game so they can become an automatic winning machine. Don't these people play the game just to have fun? It's no fun when you destroy everyone every single time.

That strikes me as... odd. You seem to be saying getting better at a game makes it less fun, as opposed to losing half the time because you don't know what the hell you're doing and just mashing buttons.
Sure, I'll give you that lame glitches made SSBM less fun. Learning glitches can ruin games, like they did to SSBM, learning 'physics' and things intentionally programmed in can't.
I really don't see how across all games, the higher the level you play the game at, the less fun it is.

^Well, to me there's a difference between getting better and turning yourself into a video game playing machine. It's seems like some of these people play less for fun and more for the desire that they need to be the best at any cost.

Who plays a game innately to be the best? Anyone who plays to be the best does that because that in itself is fun.

I'm not saying that it ruins the fun for them. I'm saying it ruins the fun for the more casual gamer like me.

What he's saying is, it's fine to have fun and get better, but don't waste your life doing it.

So you think it's unfair that people who are more devoted to a game, more skilled at a game, and spend more time/effort getting better at it than you, should win more often than you?
...I really don't understand how that wouldn't be completely fair.

uh oh not the life card
I don't think someone can 'waste their life' doing what they think is fun.
