Favorite Game of All Time!!

OK, so I don't know if there is a thread like this out there somewhere, and if so then sorry about this.

Anyway, we all love a wide variety of games here. We have fans of specific genres, and people who like some games that others hate.

But I think everyone here has just one game that just blows his or her mind more than the others, one game that makes them go WOW THAT GAME WAS FANTASTIC.

And contrary to popular belief, including mine until recently, mine is NOT Tales of Symphonia. ;{D

So, what is that one game that makes you go OH MY GOD THIS GAME IS AMAZAZING???

And why?

Mine is actually Persona 3.

The thing I love most about that game is how it is all connected so FLAWLESSLY around a central theme.

The personas, the social links, the FINAL BOSS BATTLE, the twelve full moon boss battles, the tartarus, and all of the characters in your party are ALL linked around the Tarot card deck. It all fits together so perfectly-- the social links affect your ability to make personas based off of the arcana, and each of the bosses represents one of the major arcana and the final boss cycles through these arcana to finally reach the Death because the boss is.. well, it's Nyx, and that should make sense to anyone who has played P3, and the Tartarus itself mixes into the final boss and also the arcana itself because it is kind of like the personification of the Tower of Destruction.

The game is also very powerful. The death of that one guy was TOTALLY unexpected, and it was not only epic but also plot-advancing and it was just probably one of the best storyline major-character deaths I've seen. And the music for the last month in the game is really really powerful. And the game is just awesome.

Have I mentioned that this game is awesome?

I could also go on for hours about how much better it is than Persona 4 but I'll spare you all.

Anyway, what is YOUR favorite game of all time, ever? And what makes it so awesome?

Mine is probably Final Fantasy 6.

Amazing characters, awesome gameplay, spectacular soundtrack. One of the most memorable and influential games I've ever played. I still have the FFIII cartridge for the SNES.

A close second would probably be Chrono Trigger, for many of the same reasons.

Super Metroid. Why? Everything is friggin perfect. Music, environments, secrets; bosses, huge variety of enemies, unique lore; powerups, crazy hidden abilities, amazing level design. It's so elegantly done, I couldn't imagine a game I find more appealing. The bosses especially, though - it's not some lame fight like LoZ where you do the same thing three times, etc. They're all over the place and they've all got tons of different attacks, and they take wave after wave of missiles to the face without the action slowing until they're dead. This game uses visuals and sound to build suspense in a way that no similar game had done before it, if you can find many similar games outside of straight-up clones or sequels.

My list of runnerups would be huge, so I won't bother. Think I'm gonna go play some more Morrowind.

Gunstar Heroes. I'll write up something about "OMGZ THIS IS AMAZING" when I have more time to browse teh netz tonight.

Edit: I think it's partially a nostalgia factor but I just remember the first time using those guns (which are all totally badass) and then throwing an enemy into another and blowing everything up and then fighting some insane boss then playing an entire level on a board game and then the game becoming a shmup and then and then and then

screw it it's not nostalgia that game is ****ing awesome i'm gonna play some of it tonight

Super Mario RPG was a seminal game for me. It was the first RPG I seriously played, and in turn I seriously played the hell out of it. It has so much flavour, its bones would make for some really awesome soup stock.

I'm not really sure right now. I have good memories of Banjo-Tooie, but I last played that years ago.

Maybe Metroid Prime until tomorrow or something, because my opinions like changing.

Okami. The biggest reason is probably how it felt like every NPC had a real personality. One of the things that really annoys me in a lot of games is how the vast majority of NPCs don't really feel alive. That wasn't the case for Okami. From little things like the guy who watches you fight demons in Kamiki Village to characters as major as Waka, everyone felt like they had their own personality.

Add beautiful environments, great gameplay, a well done and detailed story, and music that fits the scene perfectly and you've got a game that's without competition for #1 on my list.

Honorable mentions would be things like Morrowind/Oblivion, KotoR I/II, Skies of Arcadia and a bunch of games I haven't finished yet (FFVI), even though none of them really get close to being the top.

I'm gonna be the first cliche one and say Chrono Trigger. The story in that game gets to me every single time I play it, and I love each and every character in the game. Lavos truly frightens me, and I really feel it when bad things happen. Plus, there's a lot of replay value.

Second in line would be earthbound, for practically the same reasons.

Hm, honestly, thinking through it all, I can't boil it down to 1 due to there being several, as follows,

Earthbound for its story, underlying themes, and amazing soundtrack.

I doubt many will agree with me but Dead Space, is another game I love the hell out of, dispite it failing hard to be horror, it's atomspheric to boot, the boss fights are all epic, the story is absoutly brilliant, and all the weapons and enemies are well thought out and designed.

Morrowind/Oblivion, both are amazing in thier own right, but for different reasons, one being that ****ing fast travel system I hate in oblivion but is absent in morrowind, but, the fatigue and combat systems are alot better in Oblivion.

Final Fantasy 4, just on the grounds that in my opinion it's my favorite, and I love everything about it.

Portal, because ****ing Portal.

I'm probably gonna be slandered and maimed for this, but I found Wind Waker to be my favorite Zelda game on the ground that Ganon is more of an actual evil threat this time, and some people found that sailing boring, but I rather enjoyed it.

And Devil May Cry 3, because ****ing Devil May Cry 3.

Assassin's Creed. The only flaw was the repeatitiveness, but with the amazing senery, fighting, and the thrill of jumping off the highest towers to kill myself. And quite an unexpected ending. Amazing storyline.

Final Fantasy IX, Radiata Stories, Shadow of the Colossus, LoZ: TP, and Dark Cloud 2 typically round out my top 5.

REASONS:

FFIX is ****ing amazing, no matter what anyone says. I'm not sure what caused me to be so biased towards it, but it's so incredibly gorgeous in every way. I've always felt attached to this game, and that won't ever change.

I have no idea why I love Shadow of the Colossus like I do. Something about the way this game was presented just struck me. I've not yet quit being a hugeass fan of the thing and I won't any time soon.

Radiata Stories is doubtless one of the most amazingly addictive games I've ever played, and I find myself playing it over and over and over... Hell, I'm playing through it again right now. I'm not sure why I love it so, but maybe the friend system, coupled with the quirky humor and the surprisingly deep and subtle story that surfaces later in the game, as well as the extremely deep but equally intuitive battle system have something to do with it.

TP and Dark Cloud 2 are simply addictive and I had a lot of fun playing them. A lot of pleasant memories also surround my playthroughs of each (TP was in late 2008 during a more carefree phase of my life and DC2 was in 2004, when I was just beginning to truly get into RPGs and develop deep connections with my close friends, as well as just generally warm tweenhood memories)

Honorable mentions include: Mega Man Legends, Super Mario RPG, the Banjo Kazooie games, the Phoenix Wright series, the Paper Mario games, and many more.

My favorite game has to be Rachet in Clank: Up Your Arsenal, because of the large amount of weapons, levels, and most of the gimmicks were well-crafted (even if I had some problems with the hacking parts).

The multiplayer was an amazing feature, and the story was something I enjoyed. In addition to all the nods to the past games, and the extra stuff, there were the Quark mini-games, the Secret Agent Clank segment, and all of the bosses were well crafted.

I played the hell out of this game. Twice.

^I remember once when I sat down and played through Up your Arsenal's story 4 times in a week (3 of those playthroughs being the strong-from-the-start playthroughs). It's short as hell, but fun. My main reason was to upgrade my weaponry, but also because I may have lost my mind for a bit there. :P

Super Mario RPG, it was the reason I attempted to play video games while I was younger. As my gaming history doesn't consist of much other than Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, occasional Nintendo racing franchises and Madden. Among with some randoms.

Mario RPG takes the cake because it reeks of the most nostalgia for me. It was a clever, unique take on the Mario universe that, IMO, no Mario game has excelled (some have matched it). It just was the base of Mario's personality for years to come.

Second has to be the Second Gen Pokemon series, because around this time I understood wtf was going on (I was about 9 when the originals came out, 12 during G2). Solid gameplay, still in love with it to this day.

Third has to be OoT. SMRPG is the only game I have beaten more times than this. Me and Ollie used to spend summers beating this game over and over again.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is all time favorite, with Bioshock coming in second. Then the Star Wars Jedi Knight and Silent Hill series's. And of course Final Fantasy VI.
