I want to play some different games - from different series.

To begin, I've never played a Sonic game. What would you all recommend from the following consoles?: Wii + WiiWare, DS + GBA, PC, XBox, GameCube, PS1 + 2.

Just some Sonic series info, since I was recently obsessed with it:

If you can get your hands on the Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube, that has a bunch of the oldschool Sonics on it.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2, I believe, are ones where you can't save-- you get a certain number of continues and lives, and if you run out of them you have to start alllll over.

The 3rd one you can save, and you can also play as Tails. It's pretty much cheating though because you can just fly over ninety percent of the level. :{P [I think you can play as Tails in 2 as well, but you can't fly as him, so it's just like Sonic gameplay]

As for 3-D games, I've only played the two Sonic Adventure games. The gameplay in the second one is waaaaaay better, but the storytelling aspect of the first one is done better IMO. They're both really fun, though, but I think the gamecube release of the first one is hard to find. 2 should be obtainable though.

As for other stuff...... if you've never played Scribblenauts [DS], that is a must-buy. And Persona 3/4 are awesome games [PS2], if you haven't played those either. I prefer 3, but ninety percent of the population prefers 4. They both rock, however.

Also the Donkey Kong Country games are hella fun. 2 is my favorite by far. They're available on the virtual console.

Thanks! So, currently, Sonic Adventure 2 and/or Sonic Mega Collection.

As for Scribblenauts, I'm planning to get the sequel this fall. Right now, though, I just crave Sonic.

Edit: ^ Nope. Just one of those fast-paced platformers. Thanks anyway.

Just stay away from Shadow the Hedgehog. And Scribblenauts, IMO.

And please, for the love of everything that's holy, download them from the Virtual Console. Don't play the bastardized remakes on GBA.

I'd say stay away from Sonic Chronicles, even if you want an RPG, because SC is a pretty crappy one.

If you want a Sonic game, I'd say download one on the VC. 1, 2, 3 or S&K are all good.

Shadow the Hedgehog's a good game, but with a bad plot. Ignore the plot and play the missions however you feel like it and not care about getting all the endings and you'll be fine.

Also, Perfect Dark XBL kicks butt.

^ But Sonic has a hundred games in which you can accept the games in their entirity. Why even go the Shadow route?

Sonics 1-3 and S&K, I can personally vouch for being excellent, and I've always heard nothing but good things about Sonic CD.
3D Blast is supposed to be good, too, I think.

And remember, "I'm-a Tails, number one!"

^ 3D Blast was coincidentally a blast. Don't up too well these days and it has its difficulty set high but certainly worth a look.

Exaggeration beside, the truth is few Sonic games can be accepted in their entirety, even ones you might consider 'safe.'

Sonic 1: His spindash is more or less thought to have always been possible. The lack of it and the 7th emerald makes part of this game unacceptable, thus it cannot be entirely accepted.
Sonic 2: Tails cannot fly if you control him. Like most old games, there are no other humans. If you wish to accept the Sonic Adventure games in their entirety, this game can't be taken as entirely canon.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Super Emeralds, Super Tails, Hyper forms, and potentially Hyper Metal Sonic may not exist anymore canonically, as they are almost never brought up or reinforced, and future games from this game ignore it. Super emeralds appear to be, for sure, no longer canon.

Sonic Adventure: Voice actors change after this game. Eggman says it is a nickname instead of acting like it is his main name. Random chao changes. Tails acts much younger in this game than he is in most peers to this game.
Sonic Adventure 2: Eggman pointing a gun at people, Gerald's darker and edgier behaviors, Shadow's entire personality, GUN's perceived strength (which is never this high again in any future games, nor is it explained why they lost it) not to mention iffy plot hooks just barely giving a reason for Rouge or Knuckles to even be IN this game, and Tails in a mech. Long before the games were seen to suck, this game paved the way for 'iffy' changes which generally get thrown out either canonically or by fans.

Sonic Heroes: Terminator Metal Sonic. Eggman being defeated so badly by his own machine. Chao being the source of the ability to morph into any shape one wants. Shadow's personality from here is in transition, so neither games before or after it use it. The fate of Metal Sonic here conflicts with his continued appearances elsewhere, suggesting someone dropped the ball (or Metal Sonic) when they planned the end of this. Omega is given one voice here, which is then immediately changed. This game conflicts with the ages given for Chaotix as well. GUN is almost nowhere to be seen despite practically ruling the world in SA2.

That's just a short sample, but I hope you get my point. Almost no Sonic game is immune to parts which cannot be taken too seriously/considered a permanent thing series-wide. Those which aren't directly contradicted often wind up being ignored or shoved to the side instead--therefore, why not play Shadow the Hedgehog for the well-made engine? It is still rather fun, and to someone who isn't an in-depth Sonic fan, its terrible story is much less grating.

And it's probably dirt cheap.

If you're looking for some decent 3D platformers, Rayman is pretty neat in a pinch. Not those horrible Rabbids games, though, those are just minigames and ****.

Donkey Kong Country for sure, if you never have. I echo the prior sentiment of downloading it for the VC. I just started a re-play of DKC3 and I'm lovin' it.

Can you list some series you have played so we can get a better idea?

I didn't find much wrong with Sonic Chronicles.

....Well, you should definitely try out Donkey Kong Country. There's always Sonic Mega Collection for Sonic, as well the just-came out Sonic Classic Collection for the DS containing Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic 2 where Knuckles is playable, Sonic 3 where Knuckles is playable, and Sonic and Knuckles.

Try out Spelunky or Cave Story for the computer, they're free to download. They should both be pretty easy to find, but feel free to PM me if you need help.

The Mega Man series is, and there's plenty of them.

If you want something really different, play The World Ends With You, for the Nintendo DS. It's a very unique RPG that doesn't play like you think it would.

Castlevania and Metroid games are always great. It'd help if you could tell us what you play often.
