I just saw the teaser trailer for this Haunted House movie and, you know what, it's got me curious.

Like most movies made before my birth, I haven't seen the original (but I did see the Simpson's parody of it in the very first Treehouse of Horror episode).

I've had a facination with ghosts/haunted houses since I was a kid and the vast majority of horror movies I see involves just that.

Also intriging is the "Based on a true story" advertising that's shown in the trailer. From the looks of it, this movie is more based on a true story that "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was (this remake is written by the same guy, who did the Chainsaw remake). The characters in the movie really did exist, and a quick search on Google should give you a website or two that talks about the real Amityville Horror.

Once again, I'm saying this movie has me curious.

I tried to watch the original and promptly fell asleep because it was so boring.

However, the remake stars Ryan Reynolds, so I'm optimistic.

Hope they use the same score. The original had an awesome spooky theme whenever you saw the house in the sunset.

Yeah, that fact that they keep saying the address makes the actual Amityville house not that hard to find (I looked it up on MapQuest the other day)

(SOME SPOILERS IN THIS POST)

Well, I saw the movie today.

The first half was creepy and if the movie stayed like that it probably would have been better.

However, the movie then decided to change into The Shining.

You see, with this version, they decided to make George Lutz slowly go crazy over the course of the 28 days in the house and at the end he attempts to kill his whole family.

Also, there is this ridiculous revelation that the haunting's were caused by this evil reverend who had a torture chamber in the house's basement.

This was not what I was expecting at all. Basically, what could have been a good psychological horror movie was turned into what hollywood thinks a horror movie should be (did I also mention that there is tons of un-nessasary gore in this movie)

Now I bring up the point about whether the actually incident is true. I can say that it's easier to say that it's a hoax than not one, because not many people believe in ghosts, hauntings, and the supernatural.

Personally, I can say that they call the unexplained the unexplained for a reason. I never experienced a haunting, so I can't say whether or not ghosts exist. However, I have been facinated with the subject all my life I will keep an open mind.

Like, what's the fun is having everything having a clear-cut explanation?

But yeah, this movie could have been better.

Dark Water was an excellent movie, at least the Japanese version. Not only did it give you the chills, but it had a moving story.

I still want to see Amityville, I liked the original and I've visited the house. It's not far from where I live...

The truth about Amityville:
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/ghosts/amityville.asp

Yeah, the article basically says that whole thing was a hoax.

I still keep an open mind though. Like I said yesterday, it's easier to say that a haunting is a hoax than to prove that it actually happened (which is near-impossible)

While in the projection booth today at work, I heard the movie playing and I thought of "The Shining".

Evil reverand? Whose idea was that?!
