"Spider-Man 3", which is scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, will reunite the successful team that was responsible for the first two blockbuster films. The franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales and the new film will again reteam director Raimi, producers Ziskin and Arad, and actors Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as M.J.. Production on "Spider-Man 3" is scheduled to begin early next year. "In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," said Raimi. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him." The identity of the new villain is being kept secret and while speculation is rampant about which character is being called into action, the studio will not comment on the casting beyond confirming Church. Since his star-making role in "Sideways", Church has been in demand. The actor is voicing one of the characters in the upcoming animated film "Charlotte's Web", and he recently appeared in Columbia Pictures' "Spanglish". Church previously appeared in such other films as "George of the Jungle", "330 Miles to Graceland", and "Tombstone". In 2003, he also starred in, co-wrote and directed the comedy "Rolling Kansas". From 1990 to 1995, Church played Lowell Mather in the TV series "Wings". Click here to visit the official Spider-Man movie website. http://spiderman.sonypictures.com ----------------------------------------------------------- For me a good guess of the new villain would be Electro, since I am looking at a picture of him on the Marvel website and I do notice a similarity between him and Thomas Haden Church in his facial expression. However, the villain could be anyone. Feel free to post your guesses. [ November 06, 2005, 11:11 PM: Message edited by: Gimpy ] |

Perhaps they'll establish a base for it and move in with another movie or two in the future? ![]() |

Also the storyline is a bit too big to be in one movie. |

I've read a few comics, but I don't remember many villains besides the best known ones. What's that doctor called who involuntarily transforms in the lizard? I think he has a chance of being the next villain as well. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this one, as I really enjoyed the first two. |

As I've said before, some things just don't translate well to screen. So far, the baddies have been believable. They have used science to make the villains what they are, and if an alien is suddenly thrown into the mix, the ties to reality go out the window. Unfortunately, there are really no more "believable" bad guys left to use, aside from Harry, and that would be a repeat of the first movie AND would destroy the best subplot the movies have. |

If I remember correctly, he was originally a scientest that lost his arm and decided to do find a way to regrow it. (Some lizards can re-grow their tail after it falls off, so....yeah.) | |

They would need practically an entire movie to do the origin, not to mention that you can't exactly kill Venom off, nor would you want to let him off the hook. |
